*At the turning point of 5 years, we ask about the fierce struggle of Hong Kong citizens and our future. A documentary film that poignantly asks what we should do at this turning point*
Thank you for your continued support.
This film is set in Hong Kong, which was returned to China from Britain in 1997. The originally promised “one country, two systems” system was sparked by the enactment of the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance, which made it possible for criminals to be extradited to mainland China. In 2019, 2 million Hong Kong citizens took part in the pro-democracy movement. The trailer for the film “Hong Kong, a Betrayed Promise,” which was recorded by director Twinkle Nguan, who had just bought a video camera with the money she had saved as a pastry chef, and completed the movement in exile in England to avoid arrest, has now been released. I did it!

In this trailer, director Twinkle Ng An, a Hong Konger living in exile, gives a message at the beginning of the film, applying for refugee status in the UK after filming the film and making it dangerous to show her face. Also, at the end of the trailer, you can see the press conference of Finn Lau, who was offered a bounty of 20 million yen by the Chinese government, at the Japan-Hong Kong Democracy Summit held at the House of Representatives Building on June 20, 2024. It is included.
The National Security Law for the Hong Kong Special Region has expanded its scope of application to foreigners outside Hong Kong, and has now become an international human rights issue.
Also, during the screening period, Twinkle N’An will be shown at Tokyo UPLINK Kichijoji from August 30th (Friday) to September 5th
(Thursday), and at UPLINK Kyoto from September 6th (Friday) to September 8th (Sunday). It has been decided that the director will come to Japan and hold a talk event.
In addition to the director of this work, we will invite luxurious guests for talk events every day.
Please take a look! !
*Director’s comment*
“The team, made up mostly of amateurs, faced many challenges during the production process. They stood up to the end and pushed forward with a strong desire to achieve something for the Hong Kong we all love. UK During the post-production work, local technical staff turned down the work due to the risk of getting into trouble with the Chinese Communist Party. However, our strong faith and love for Hong Kong allowed us to complete this film. It gave me the strength to do so.
Through this film, let us remember the courage and sacrifices of those fighting to protect Hong Kong’s freedom and democracy. Let us believe in the future and move forward together. No matter how difficult the situation, it is important to maintain hope. I hope that the film “Hong Kong: Betrayed Promises” will give you a glimpse of that hope.”

*STORY:*
“Hong Kong: Betrayed Promises” is a documentary film that continues to realistically record the lives and passions of Hong Kong citizens who dedicated their lives and passions to protect their beloved family, friends, and their hometown of Hong Kong during a period of political and social upheaval. Through the stories of six ordinary citizens who stood up for what they love, the film depicts the reality of how they protect their hometown, experiencing hope and despair, love and heartache. The film takes viewers to the front lines of the protests, giving voice to the real voices of ordinary citizens in Hong Kong, and raising awareness of ongoing human rights violations and the growing threat of authoritarianism around the world, as well as the voices of neighboring countries such as Japan and Hong Kong. This is a work that also questions the future.
