I make a living as a glass blower on Noto Island in Ishikawa Prefecture. Eight years ago, I renovated the dirt floor of my home and started a workshop on a scale that suited my height, and two years ago, I moved my workshop within the same location to expand the space and equipment to accommodate changes in the things I make and my life stages. I did. We wanted to create a workshop that could overturn the conventional way of glassblowing workshops.We started by designing a glass melting furnace with the equipment shop who agreed with us, and this gave the artist a considerable degree of freedom and expanded his options. I think we have created a system like this. There are still things I want to do, so I’m still in the middle of it. I would like to be a workshop that can encourage people who want to work in glassblowing at their own workshop.
I make everything from everyday use vessels to large-scale arts and crafts pieces, but basically I only do glass blowing. Thinking about the long history of glassblowing, I am looking for what I can do as a modern glass maker.
