Banyan Tree Higashiyama
Kyoto is located on a hill next to Kiyomizu Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is a blend of traditional Japanese architecture and modern elegance. Inspired by the artistic beauty of Noh and the concept of “yūgen”, our hotel offers an enchanting retreat. Each design is painstakingly designed to evoke a sense of dreamy elegance and quiet admiration.

Kyoto’s architecture blends seamlessly with the surrounding rich nature, incorporating traditional Japanese building techniques while also incorporating modern elements, creating an architecture that harmonizes perfectly with the Higashiyama landscape. The hotel’s beautiful façade, made with plenty of natural wood such as cypress, emphasizes the timeless charm of the area. The large windows and open space have been carefully calculated to gently bring the tranquil beauty of the surrounding mountains and lush gardens into the room, creating an ethereal and extraordinary retreat. Kyoto artisans have regenerated gardens and bamboo groves, increasing biodiversity and reflecting the traditional techniques of historic Japanese gardens.

The guest rooms, designed by interior designer Yukio Hashimoto, combine traditional Japanese techniques with modern, natural elements to stimulate the senses, with features such as large cypress wood bathtubs, tatami mats, natural wood, and gold leaf accents. , offers an unparalleled sanctuary. Room types include rooms where you can enjoy a panoramic view of Kyoto city, and
, “ONSEN Retreat,” which has a private hot spring bath and overlooks a small garden, lush bamboo forest, and Noh stage.

*Food artistry*

Ryozen, a special Japanese cuisine restaurant with 48 seats, including a private room that can accommodate up to 10 people, will take you on an exquisite culinary journey. The head chef’s kaiseki course menu celebrates both artistry and sustainability, with each dish being a highlight, with a focus on seasonal, regional ingredients, and menus that tell the story of where they come from. We are particular about seasonings, such as Kyoto vegetables, Kyoto miso, and Kyoto’s unique black shichimi, and use plenty of local ingredients. We searched for kelp that would go well with Kyoto’s clear, soft water, and arrived at it using Rishiri kelp, which has been aged for 5 years. This rich soup is made with bonito flakes and tuna flakes, allowing you to enjoy the deep umami flavor.

*Cultural experience*

Banyan Tree Higashiyama
In Kyoto, guests can explore and appreciate the city’s traditional arts through private cultural experiences organized by the hotel.

For example, how about visiting the workshop of Noh mask master Mitsue Nakamura and experiencing the essence of Japanese culture? Here you can witness the skill of the craftsmen who create Noh masks, which are a testament to the tradition of Nohgaku and are registered as UNESCO’s World Intangible Cultural Heritage. This special experience not only provides a deep understanding of the spiritual artistry behind Noh masks, but also provides a rare opportunity to experience a living tradition.

We can also arrange a private incense ceremony experience at Sennyu-ji Temple, a tranquil temple close to the hotel. Discover the ancient Japanese art of incense and experience an experience that evokes deep peace and spiritual connection. Why not have a luxurious experience that exposes you to parts of Japan’s art and cultural heritage that you didn’t know about yet?
