Humanome Research Institute Co., Ltd., in collaboration with Hoosier Care Design Co., Ltd., will begin research aimed at predicting the health of the elderly.
*With the cooperation of the residents and staff of Duo Seine, a condominium for seniors, we will work on developing AI to support the daily lives of elderly people with peace of mind*
*
Humanome Research Institute Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, hereinafter referred to as “Humanome Research Institute”) is a subsidiary of Hoosiers Care Design Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, hereinafter referred to as “Hoosiers”), which plans and operates condominiums for seniors. In collaboration with “Care Design”), we have begun measuring and analyzing lifestyle data with the aim of developing AI to help elderly people deal with their own health. *
*
While facing the ever-changing social situation, both companies share the desire to create a monitoring service that takes care of the elderly’s concerns about their health, including psychological aspects that are difficult for people to pay attention to, which led to this collaboration. Ta. *

By improving the accuracy of the physical condition prediction AI that Humanome Research Institute has cultivated and specializing it for the elderly, we will be able to pick up signs of changes in physical condition that are difficult to notice based on the subject’s subjective experience, increasing opportunities for disease prevention and early treatment. I aim for it. *

Background of the case
Typical concerns faced by the elderly include health-related concerns such as “getting sick,” “needing nursing care,” and “suffering from dementia.” The proportion of single-person households is expected to reach 40% by 2040, due to the increase in unmarried people and the trend toward nuclear families. It is expected that it will be difficult for families alone to continuously monitor their health status and pay attention to changes.
Currently, the government is actively promoting medical DX
initiatives, and biometric data is being collected and analyzed at nursing care sites with the aim of saving labor in monitoring care recipients. It is thought that an environment in which it is easy to receive high-quality care through the use of digital technology will become increasingly important in the future.
In this project, we collaborated with Hoosier Care Design, which proposes new ways of living based on the theme of “condominiums that make you healthy by living in,” to develop an AI that predicts changes in the physical condition of elderly people from various daily life data. proceed. By creating a system that detects signs of changes in physical condition from small changes in daily life, we aim to provide an environment where elderly people can receive medical examinations and tests at appropriate times.
Initiatives regarding this matter
When developing AI to predict changes in physical condition, it is essential to acquire data on the daily lives of elderly people. In order to obtain actual data on “elderly people who are able to lead a normal daily life,” which is the starting point for this development, we requested the cooperation of residents of condominiums for seniors operated by Hoosier Care Design, and conducted the following physical measurements. We held a meeting.
*Location* Duo Seine Toyota
*Address* 3-1-25 Asahigaoka, Hino City, Tokyo 191-0065
*Date and time* May 31, 2024, June 1, 2024
*Participants* 36 people participated (Participant capacity: 40 people, Number of households: 118)
*Measurement details*
Interview, blood pressure measurement, grip strength, walking ability evaluation, posture measurement, balance measurement, joint range of motion measurement, height, grip strength, weight, muscle mass, fat mass, bone density, questionnaire (WHO-5: mental status determination, LSNS-6 : Judgment of social isolation)

In parallel with this measurement event, we are planning to continue measuring biological data for elderly people who are able to function in daily life, and we are continuing to conduct experimental measurements. The test measurements were carried out with the cooperation of Duo Seine Toyota staff, and were used to identify various problems that arise when elderly people use digital devices (such as the digital divide problem, how to communicate convenience, and support systems), and to prepare for the introduction. We are currently considering the flow.
Future plans
As part of our educational activities aimed at improving the daily lives of residents, we will return the measurement results as well as the opinions obtained from the data analysis to the participants in the form of a feedback report. We plan to use the measurement data and analysis results as basic data for future physical condition change prediction AI.
From now on, we will continue to collect sleep and exercise data from all residents using digital devices, as well as survey their subjective physical condition through questionnaires. Analysis of the correlation between the physical condition of the elderly and data, and specialization for the elderly
We will continue to develop AI that predicts physical condition changes. In addition to reducing the labor involved in monitoring tasks traditionally performed by families, we will support the health of the elderly in a variety of ways, including suggesting exercise programs and medical examinations tailored to their health conditions.
At the senior condominiums provided by Hoosier Care Design, the data of residents who wish to be measured and analyzed using this AI is provided to the health consultation room permanently installed within the facility, allowing staff (nurses) to We will strive to save labor and strengthen the monitoring system. By continuously acquiring data that monitors changes in the mind and body, we can not only build a smooth collaboration system with medical care, but also use it as an opportunity to deepen relationships between staff and residents, and as a database on the daily lives of elderly people. I plan to do so.
