In collaboration with Daiki (hereinafter referred to as LOCOK), we held the “Turn the power of chewing into the power of sports” Volleyball Class 2 & Talk Show” at the Gotenyama Elementary School Arena in Shinagawa Ward.
As a sustainability initiative, Lotte has set the percentage of people who practice chewing consciously (domestic).
In order to achieve the goals of increasing the percentage of people who incorporate xylitol into their daily lives for dental and oral health to over 50% (in Japan) by 2028, dental associations and Through conference events and seminars, we educate dentists, patients, and citizens about the usefulness of chewing gum and ingesting xylitol.
In collaboration with LOCOK, which aims to achieve sustainable social development together with customers and partners through education, we held an event to teach children at Gotenyama Elementary School about the importance of sports and chewing.
We invited professional volleyball player Shinsuke Ishikawa and former professional volleyball player Yoshie Takeshita as guests, and held a volleyball class where children could have fun learning about passing and attacking. Visiting professor Tomotaka Takeda taught the students the importance of chewing in sports performance, the importance of chewing well in everyday meals, and the close relationship between oral health and athletic performance. I gave a brief lecture.
Lotte will continue to conduct research and disseminate the positive effects of chewing on health as part of its sustainability efforts, and will contribute to people’s enriched lives through the spread of chewing.

I was able to communicate with the children of Gotenyama Elementary School in Shinagawa Ward through the volleyball class, and I had a very fulfilling time. This was my first time teaching a volleyball class, so I was nervous about whether I would be able to teach them well, but it was great to see the smiles on the faces of the children as they played happily.
I would like to share the importance of “chewing” that Mr. Takeda taught me with the athletes around me and put it into practice so that they can participate in future practices and games in their best condition.

I once again realized that gum is a food that can be chewed for a long time with a certain force and a certain rhythm, and that chewing has various physical and mental effects.
Little by little, I started to incorporate the gum training lessons that I learned today: “Stretch your back and place your feet firmly on the ground,” “Chew evenly on both sides with your mouth closed,” and “Chew at your own pace and rhythm.” I think so.
