The theme of this program is for high school students to manage the store themselves, selling food products made in Malawi, Africa. Focusing on coffee beans, we sold tea and goods.
Additionally, this program is characterized by its high social contribution, with all proceeds from sales being used to support school lunches for children in Malawi, the country of origin.
The middle and high school students who participated are living a privileged life in Japan compared to other countries around the world. The high school students felt happy that they were able to support children in faraway Malawi with the profits earned from running their stores, but at the same time they witnessed firsthand the huge economic disparity between Japan and developing countries.
The proceeds obtained through this program amounted to a total of 10,299 school meals, or one year’s worth of school meals for 51 African children.
In the future, “RIZAPRO Extracurricular Activities,” provided by RIZAPRO Co., Ltd., will continue to actively hold activities that allow children to “make social issues their own,” and to acquire the ability to contribute to society in their own way and carve out a future.

Sales at the store
* Program background lecture and marketing practice *
In the session on the first day, Nana Okamura, who worked as an elementary school teacher in South Africa and Ghana for one year, deepened her knowledge of the current situation in Africa from an educational perspective and life there. Mr. Yamada, the representative of Seibo Japan, gave us a lecture about what kind of country Malawi is and why school lunch support is needed, and we reaffirmed the significance of this program.
In the practical marketing work, students used what they had learned in the lecture to deepen their discussions in groups, such as what kind of greetings to make at stores and what kind of articles to write on blogs. Students discuss what kind of proposals would be appropriate when taking the position of a purchaser or user, which is important in marketing and public relations.
Actual sales
* Store management experience! ~ Weekend afternoon sales in Shinjuku ~ * In terms of actual store operations, we have secured an outdoor space in Shinjuku Ward as a sales base, and are selling on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons during busy times. On Friday, when the elementary school students sold the products, the Kagurazaka Festival was held near the venue, which resulted in a large number of customers, including foreigners.
Some of the students tried to communicate in English, and they realized how difficult it was to suggest products without getting to the point.
* ・Voices from students who actually participated*
・She was happy when I gave her a label that I designed (4th grade elementary school student)
・I was already nervous, but I was really nervous talking to a foreigner (3rd year high school student)
・When I was shouting out loud to suggest a product, I got a few strange looks and felt a little embarrassed. (1st year high school)
