The secret to successful web materials! What is the strongest color scheme chosen by top companies? Survey results of color schemes used in PDF service materials
*Based on detailed data, we conducted a thorough investigation into how the color scheme of PDF materials affects the success of our services. Check out the statistics and get practical tips to help you create your own documentation right away. Please take a look. * *1. Image of service caused by color*
There are various designs for PDF documents on web services. Among these, color has a big impact on the impression of the product and its readability.
In addition, designs vary widely depending on the industry and type of business. Even within the same industry, the colors used can vary greatly depending on the image the company wants to give to users.
If the readability is poor, you will not be able to properly convey the message you originally wanted to convey, and readers may skip important parts or stop reading mid-way through.
This time, we will present the results of a survey on the colors used in PDF documents of important web services that affect the readability of conveying the impression of products.
2. Colors used in PDF materials
The colors used in PDF documents for web services vary widely depending on the industry and industry. This time, we will introduce the results of a survey on the colors used in PDF documents, focusing on the web applications developed by our company. As for text colors, most of them are black and white, so these colors are analyzed separately. In addition, the survey results are shown in RGB values, and color names and pixel counts are also listed for better
understanding.
2.1 Top 5 colors commonly used in sales materials that give a good impression The survey method is to express the colors used on each page of the PDF document as RGB values, and to make it easier to summarize the results, each RGB value is rounded to the nearest 50 and the top 5 colors are calculated.
Because each slide has some fluctuation due to photographs, etc., we have narrowed down the values to those that give a similar impression.
*Total of 10 samples: out of 525096 pixels.
Also, since it is difficult to get an image from just the RGB values, I write the name of some colors and the area occupied by that color in pixels next to it.
rgb(150,200,200) light blue: 3469 pixels
rgb(100,150,200) Dark blue: 2871 pixels
rgb(50,150,150) blue-green: 1183 pixels
rgb(50,150,200) Slightly dark blue: 1149 pixels
rgb(200,250,250) light blue: 842 pixels
You can see that many colors in the blue family are used. This trend is especially noticeable in business-related applications, where this color is often used not only for materials but also for service logos and website designs.
Blue is a color that evokes images of “freshness,” “loyalty,” “reliability,” and “intelligence.”
2.2 5th to 10th most commonly used colors
The 5th to 10th colors used are as follows.
rgb(250,200,50) dark yellow: 329 pixels
rgb(150,150,200) dark purple: 260 pixels
rgb(200,200,250) light purple: 168 pixels
rgb(150,200,250) light blue: 134 pixels
rgb(50,100,100) dark blue-green: 122 pixels
You can see that this color also has a lot of blue color, and yellow is used as a complementary color.
2.3 Other colors
Below rank 11, the yellow variety, which was rare until now, begins to appear, followed by green and red. The reason why yellow begins to appear is thought to be because it is used as a complementary color to blue, as described in 2.1.
Following this, green and red have many green-based colors, which are also the second most commonly used color after blue when looking at each service’s materials. The reason why red starts to increase after green is thought to be because red is a complementary color to green, just as yellow is a complementary color to blue.
3. black and white investigation
Black and white are often used in text and are used differently depending on the background.
White is often used for background margins, so if text and background are included, it has the highest usage rate overall with a pixel count of 4261620.
*Total of 27 samples: 14442291 out of
There are many shades of gray, which are between black and white, and although they are also used as text colors, they are often used for shadows, emphasis on text, and three-dimensional expressions. The total number of pixels of the materials investigated this time was as follows.
rgb(250,250,250) White: 4261620 pixels (29.51%)
rgb(0,0,0) black: 4034377 pixels (27.93%)
rgb(50,50,50) dark gray: 933990 pixels (6.47%)
rgb(200,200,200) light gray: 899630 pixels (6.23%)
rgb(100,100,100) Neutral gray: 590261 pixels (4.09%)
4. Summary
Color affects the image of the product not only in web service materials, but also in logos and websites. In addition, this time we will look at the results of a survey regarding color, but when it comes to text, the impression changes greatly depending on the font, shadow, and contrast.
Also, some people may have color blindness, which may make it difficult to read text depending on the combination of certain colors. We will introduce improvement methods and countermeasures regarding this in the column below.
Please take a look if you are interested.
Is it necessarily better to have fewer colors, or what problems can occur if there are more? and other questions will be answered. https://shi-so.com/column/7766
There is not necessarily a correct answer, but if the read rate of the material is sluggish, I think one option is to take the plunge and change the color.
We offer “SHI-SO PDF,” a service that allows you to easily collect, view, and record PDF information.
Please feel free to use it.

In this survey, we used a tool that analyzes the frequency of color usage in images and PDFs to investigate the RGB values of colors and the number of pixels used. (α version function)
This will help you determine if your slides are unintentionally multicolored or if they have a smart design.
