Dadmandog is a soul funk project that started releasing songs in 2021. Although he has only produced a small number of works, he has created a buzz around the world each time he releases his works, which are characterized by old-fashioned grooves and are known as “Reissue.” This work pinpointly reproduces the sound of the transition period of the disco scene, when the trend changed from analog to digital. The laid-back, tight rhythm, groovy bass line, and glittering vocoder that colors the entire song are reminiscent of the studio sessions of the time, and truly embody the essence of Boogie in the early ’80s.
While city pop and new disco have been reevaluated in recent years, Dadmandog has focused on funk, which can be said to be its origins. Although this work utilizes the latest digital technology, it achieves an old-school sound reminiscent of the warmth unique to analog. A long-awaited full-length album featuring 9 danceable songs with uninterrupted grooves. There are also homages to songs that were popular on the hit charts at the time, and there are plenty of tricks that will make funk connoisseurs grin.
*About album artwork and album name*
The album artwork for this work was shot at a disco in China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region with Japanese photographer “lyuhui.” This restaurant features a retro interior reminiscent of the disco culture of the 1980s and a unique dance culture that spreads there.It’s as if time has suddenly stopped and the atmosphere of several decades ago has been captured. It depicted a nostalgic space. Album name of this work “2
Hours
“Behind” was named after the Uighur Autonomous Region’s unique standard time, “Xinjiang Time,” which runs two hours later than the capital Beijing. I would like you to imagine the enthusiasm of days gone by through the “sound half a century out of date” produced by this work.
