The second installment of innovative gagaku concerts!
Last year, we held an innovative concert that embodies the musicality and philosophy of Naoyuki MANABE GAGAKU Ensemble. This is the second installment. Last year, they performed Toru Takemitsu’s “Autumn Garden Song” with a new interpretation, focusing on its aspect as an elegant piece of music rather than as a contemporary song, and it was well received. This time, I will try out Kei Ichiyanagi’s
“Okanraku”. In addition, the continuation of last year’s performance of “Hoshimo”, which was commissioned and premiered by Kaito Nakahori, a young composer who is currently attracting attention, will be premiered.
It is sure to be a concert filled with the classics performed by NMGE and our charm.

Naoyuki MANABE GAGAKU Ensemble(NMGE)
Formed in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic, with the philosophy that “only performers who respect tradition and continue to study can create new traditions.”
While rooted in tradition, we have performed in new styles of performance, using gardens, ruins, and theater spaces, and using performance forms that are not limited to a stage and audience seats. Taking out the musical elements of gagaku, composer Naoyuki Manabe created “tone” and two groups of “omeribuki” and “oibuki” (playing techniques in which the melody is shifted), and ōbu (playing technique in which the melody is shifted). He invented a new style of performance using the Omerimai (dancing with shifted dance) technique. We continue to create projects that can become new traditions. Performance summary
