Her parents are a prominent Latin percussionist, her father, Larry Toshinaga, and a pioneering Latin vocalist, her mother, Mitchie Ouchi. In her late twenties, Arisa Toshinaga was inspired by the various Latin music she encountered during her travels throughout Peru in South America, and vowed to “sing” in the mountains of Machu Picchu. A vocalist with an easy-going voice and a natural sense that is filled with Latin-based elements.

Moved to the United States in 1986. In addition to studying with the famous pianist Barry Harris, he also had sessions with Ron Carter, Mal Waldron, and others.

He has often collaborated with big-name musicians visiting Japan, such as Baden Powell and David Sanborn.
