Kyoto City Challenge to crowdfunding to deliver picture books with diversity as the theme!

A crowdfunding challenge to deliver a picture book with diversity as its theme! ~Aiming for a Kyoto where all people, including LGBT people, can live “in their own way”~

The citizen-wide “Kyoto where diverse sexualities are respected” promotion network* (hereinafter referred to as the “Network”) aims to spread understanding of diversity and create an inclusive society where everyone can live their own lives. We are working towards this goal.
As a first step, we will be taking on the challenge of crowdfunding to donate picture books to children’s facilities, so we are looking forward to donations from everyone who supports us!
*What is the “Citizen-wide “Kyoto where diverse sexualities are respected” promotion network?” is a collaboration between
organizations, companies, educational and research institutions such as universities, and governments that work to promote understanding of sexual diversity. An organization that promotes initiatives such as “promoting understanding of sexual diversity” and “supporting those who have difficulties and issues related to sexuality.”

The picture book “Nananaimon”, which was planned by this network and published by Iwasaki Shoten with the cooperation of Social Work / Art Conference (HAPS), was donated to children’s facilities in Kyoto City. This will be used for expenses, etc. (See 2 for details)

As a return gift for donations, we have set up several menus, such as picture books, educational goods, dispatched instructors, etc. (See attached sheet for details)

2 Picture book “It’s nothing”
We planned a picture book that tells all children to accept themselves as they are and live their lives in their own way, and the importance of everyone from children to adults valuing themselves. 5)See project page). The picture book was created in collaboration with the Social Work/Art Conference (HAPS), a general incorporated association that accepts consultations related to art and coexistence, to search for artists and use the words of young boy Aya, paintings by Kaita Abe, and Daisuke Tsutsui. Edited and bound by Asami Shiina, the book will be published by Iwasaki Shoten Co., Ltd., which supports the purpose of the project, and will be sold to the general public at bookstores nationwide.

Painter and picture book author. Born in 1986. Published picture books and paintings using myths and fundamental images as motifs. He also handles book covers. Won the 26th Japan Picture Book Award for “If I Wipe My Fever” (Iwanami Shoten). Other books include “Michi” (Little More), “Today’s Wind Is Colorful” (Iwanami Shoten), and co-authored “I Decided: The First Story of Japan’s Constitution” (Holp Publishing).

Children’s book publisher. Keio Shobo, the predecessor of Iwasaki Shoten, was founded in 1934. At the time, it was a publisher of specialized books, mainly social science books, but founder Tetsuta Iwasaki believed that publishing books for children was the most important thing in order to rebuild Japan during the post-war period of turmoil. Thinking it was a good idea, he started Iwasaki Shoten, a children’s book publisher. The company will celebrate its 90th anniversary in 2024.

In order to connect culture and the arts with diverse fields such as welfare, we utilize the knowledge of experts to provide consultation for artists who explore and create works that address social issues, as well as businesses and cultural facilities that aim to pursue more open-minded activities.
