“Satoyama learning SDGs” crowdfunding has started!
*A place in Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture where you can experience the SDGs and arrive at your own “solution” that is not given to you by others! *
*NPO Ecology Online* (Headquarters: Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture, Chairman: Yutaka Kamioka) is collaborating with *Marudake/Satoyama Restoration Cooperation Association* (Representative: Hiroyuki Tanaka),*
*Crowdfunding* with the aim of providing a place to experience the SDGs in which people can arrive at their own “solutions”* that are not given to them by others.
I decided to launch.
Tada-cho, Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture, surrounded by mega solar power plants, country clubs, and stone crushing plants*
has supported Japan’s economic growth by supporting the architecture of large cities, supplying renewable energy, and serving as places for urban people to relax. There is a small village called Marudake area.
The cedar and cypress forests that were planted to support post-war reconstruction have been left untouched* and have fallen into disrepair*, being exposed to damage from animals such as deer and wild boars*, and the water from the mountains has dried up*
, the paddy fields, which lost their plowers, were covered with weeds and shrubs.
* “I want to revitalize the area somehow!” *
About 5 years ago, a group of volunteers who thought so stood up and called out to the owners of the forest, which had been scattered, and gathered together the forest, cleared the underbrush, *removed fallen trees, created work roads, etc.*
We have started maintenance. What came into view from there was a nostalgic landscape of Satochi-Satoyama. It was the moment when I discovered the *future of satoyama*.
Issues such as global warming and the destruction of ecosystems have continued to rob people in developing countries and the next generation of children of hope, who are greatly affected by them. From such reflection*
We have entered an era in which sustainable development* is required.
* How can we transform regions that have supported high economic growth into sustainable ones? *
Since humans are emotional beings, this is not a problem that can be solved by technology alone. Walking with nature, in nature* “Truth, goodness and beauty”*
We need to learn the wisdom of our ancestors who sought the same, and apply it to regional development.
From January to March of this year, Ms. Masako Sakata traveled all over the country holding events and workshops on the theme of environmental improvement, and continues to participate in
international conferences such as the Earth Summit.* Professor Masako Sakata*
They visited us for a total of 8 days. We asked Professor Sakata to interpret the topography and characteristics of the mountain, and we began caring for the stream using traditional methods learned from the wisdom of our ancestors in order to restore the ecologically rich Satoyama.
I would like to work with you to create a place* where you can learn, experience, and practice your relationship with nature.

* -Forest SDGs Network and Ecology Online-*
At Ecology Online, we have also been working on projects to revitalize Japan’s forests as a practical activity for SDGs. The ideal cycle for artificial forests, which make up most of Japan’s forests, is to fix CO2 by planting, growing, felling, and using them for things like houses and furniture. The CO2 we emit will be absorbed by growing young, healthy forests. For this reason, we have helped many people buy and use wood produced from Japan’s artificial forests.
In the local Sano City, * 6th forestry * and * Satoyama conservation * We have supported the activities of In the Satoyama restoration project, which works with local leaders, we focus on the environment beneath the soil and learn from the practices of our predecessors. *Small self-cutting forestry*
, and new projects have begun with the themes of protecting and passing on biodiversity and regenerating the commons (common property).
At this year’s Crafan, we will work with the people of Tada Town to discuss “local village forest development” that will serve as a model for the future, as well as efforts to utilize domestic materials from all over the country.
We plan to create this in collaboration with a variety of
organizations and individuals.
