NPO Clean Ocean Ensemble published a paper on floating microplastics off the coast of Takamatsu
A photo of the tide taken off the coast of Takamatsu. You can see seaweed and seaweed gathering in the tide. In addition, young filefish and soi fish accompany them, and they play the role of a cradle for the sea. This research has revealed that microplastics are also accumulating in large numbers in these tides.

A paper on floating microplastics in the tidal waters off the coast of Takamatsu was published in which Clean Ocean Ensemble (Shodoshima Town, Shozu District, Kagawa Prefecture, Representative Director: Yuki Egawa), an NPO that works to solve marine litter problems, was involved.
Published in Marine Pollution Bulletin. *
*●Summary of the paper*
In this paper, we investigated the density of microplastics in tides where materials converge, and compared and quantified the density, using the Takamatsu coast as the research area. As a result, it was revealed that the density of microplastics was 300 times higher in the tidal waters compared to the general sea area. For detailed
information on this paper, please refer to Kagawa University’s press release.
Succeeded in comparing and quantifying the density of microplastics that collect in the “tide eye” off the coast of Takamatsu

The main author of this paper, Special Assistant Professor Masatoshi Nakakuni of Kagawa University, is active as a researcher at the NPO Clean Ocean Ensemble. In addition, in this paper, Mr. Yuki Egawa, representative of the NPO Clean Ocean Ensemble, added
We cooperate by providing photos of the tides published in the data. It is hoped that the Clean Ocean Ensemble will further invigorate multifaceted approaches to marine debris issues, including academic perspectives, such as the presentation of this paper.
