*Explanation on mini app development using digital ID*
PocketSign Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director and CEO/COO: Koji Umemoto, hereinafter referred to as the Company) was established by Miyagi Prefecture and the Miyagi Information Service Industry Association (MISA) on August 1, 2024. We would like to inform you that at the digital business seminar held, Kazuki Sawada, our Director and CTO (Chief Technology Officer), gave a lecture on the development of mini-apps using the API of our digital ID application “PocketSign”.

Approximately 20 people attended the event at a venue in Sendai City and listened to a lecture by our company’s Sawada. *The possibilities of the “Pocket Sign” mini app are endless* Below is a summary of Sawada’s lecture.
* My number card and public personal authentication *
First of all, my number (personal number) and my number card are completely different things, and public personal identification (JPKI) using the IC chip of my number card has a different mechanism from my number.
JPKI is a system that publicly authenticates users online and confirms that documents such as contracts have not been tampered with using the electronic certificate installed in the IC chip of the My Number Card. . The feature is that it enables safe, reliable and strict identity verification.
In the case of a paper document, it is stamped with a registered seal and given to the other party along with the seal certificate, but JPKI is equipped with a function that digitizes the registered seal and seal certificate.
Please note that your My Number will not be used at all during this process. Dramatically more convenient thanks to the ability to use it with a mirror On May 27th of this year, the revised My Number Act came into effect, expanding the functions and uses of the My Number card. A major point is that the regulations regarding personal identification using My Number cards have been clarified, and it is now possible to use “kazashi” without entering a PIN. There are various benefits to using Kazashi, and the Digital Agency is promoting its use in various areas.
Also in the same month, the Japanese government and Apple reached an agreement to allow iPhones to be equipped with functions equivalent to My Number Cards as early as spring 2025. You will be able to confirm your identity on your smartphone in the same way without having to carry your Individual Number Card (Android smartphones have already been able to be equipped with electronic certificates since May 2023). If it is installed on iPhones following Android smartphones, identity verification using JPKI will become widespread, leading to the prevention of crime and fraud, and will also greatly contribute to the progress of digitalization of government.
* Help reach customers with mini apps *
We are developing a super app called “PocketSign” that has the function of a digital ID card. “Pocket Sign” allows various mini-apps to be installed using the API.
Our company concluded a DX agreement with Miyagi Prefecture in April 2023, and we are conducting various demonstration projects with the prefecture using “Pocket Signs.” The prefecture uses various apps for disaster prevention, evacuation support, stamp rallies, regional points, etc., all of which were developed as mini-apps that run on Pocket Sign.
The Pocket Sign mini app is characterized by its openness, allowing third parties other than our company to develop and install it. Even businesses that want to work on a service that supports My Number Cards but don’t have the know-how to develop JPKI or have high hurdles to developing native apps can use PocketSign to make mini apps with far fewer resources. It is possible to provide.
Specifically, there are two things:
Pocket Sign
Verify is an API service for businesses to incorporate JPKI into various services and applications. Businesses that already have their own smartphone apps can embed JPKI into their apps.
PocketSign on the other hand
With Link, you can use the “PocketSign” SDK (Software Development Kit) to create apps that run within the PocketSign app. In both cases, completely new identity verification using electronic signature technology can improve the user experience, reduce abandonment rates, and reduce costs.
A wide variety of scenarios are envisioned for the use of mini-apps by the private sector, and each has its own business opportunities. Our company solves the problems of business operators who are trying to meet these challenges.
In order to provide these JPKI services to others, it is necessary to become a “platform operator” by receiving certification from the competent minister under the Public Personal Identification Act. In March 2023, our company will become a private company with 16 We have obtained the company’s first platform operator certification. Please feel free to contact us for installation and consultation.
