Terra Madre is a food festival held every two years since 2004 by Slow Food International, a non-profit international organization
headquartered in Bra, Italy, with operations in 160 countries. This year marks the 20th year and the memorable 10th time.
*
People from all over the world who have food in common, including farmers, fishermen, chefs, long-established producers, indigenous people, local government officials, school teachers, activists, and ordinary people, gather together and bring food from all over the world. Together, they will taste local cuisine and endemic species, and discuss all sorts of topics, including the climate crisis, biodiversity, and food.
The previous event in 2022 attracted 350,000 visitors and 646 exhibitors participated in the market. More than 600 programs were held over the five days.
This time, more than 3,000 representative members from more than 120 countries and regions are expected to participate.
*Farmers First!*
* We support producers who practice biodiversity and environmental regeneration. *
Climate change and biodiversity loss are inevitable, but Slow Food believes that by changing the way we produce food, we can help the planet recover. However, in Japan, the number of organic farmers is only 0.6% of the total, and the number of producers working on agroecology and regeneration (biodiversity and environmental regeneration) is far smaller than that. .
Meanwhile, the Japan Slow Food Association aims to create a situation where as many practitioners from Japan as possible can participate in Terra Madre, a so-called “World Producers Conference”, a place where producers can connect internationally and share knowledge. We are active.
By supporting producers who grow food as guardians of the land and sea, we will increase their numbers in the long term. This is because we believe that it is beneficial not only for producers, but also socially and economically.
