JKK Tokyo (Tokyo Metropolitan Housing Supply Corporation: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Chairman: Keizo Nakai, hereinafter referred to as “JKK”) is a JKK housing company* located in Tomin Heim Yarimizu in Hachioji City and Kosher Heim Kugayama in Setagaya Ward. The participating elementary school students first learned about how solar power generation works. The instructor was a JKK employee who is actually in charge of installing solar power generation equipment at JKK housing and metropolitan housing. We included quizzes to keep participants from getting nervous, and we avoided using technical terms as much as possible so that even elementary school students could easily understand.

After the lecture, it was time to make a solar car using plastic bottles. The participating elementary school students excitedly opened the craft kit boxes and began working on their crafts.
The participating elementary school students ranged in age from 2nd to 6th grade, but they listened intently to the instructor’s explanation, enjoyed conversations with students from nearby universities who came to help, and successfully drove the solar car. I was able to complete it.

After completing the work, we planned to go outside and run the solar car, but unfortunately it was cloudy on both days of the event and the sun’s power did not reach us, so we used artificial lighting to run the solar car indoors. I ran
Smiling participants said, “If it can run this far with lights, I wonder how far it can go with sunlight?” and “I wonder if it’s possible to run backwards.” JKK employees were also encouraged by the many voices. It was a great event.

With the aim of achieving carbon neutrality in the late 2040s, JKK is actively taking on the challenge of reducing CO2 and other
environmental burdens throughout the lifecycle of housing, from planning, design, construction, and maintenance.
As specific initiatives, we are promoting the installation of solar power generation equipment on residential rooftop spaces and the introduction of EV/HV car sharing and cycle sharing within residential premises.
In this event, an employee who is in charge of installing solar power generation equipment at JKK will serve as a lecturer, as a project to support elementary school students’ independent research during their summer vacation.By learning together about the mechanisms of renewable energy and electric vehicles, we will be able to improve the environment. The purpose is to think about consideration.
