January 1, 2024, 4:10 p.m. As I was relaxing in my room after visiting New Year’s visit, an earthquake early warning sounded from my smartphone, and I felt a violent tremor that made me feel as if I was inside a washing machine.
A major tsunami warning was issued, and the family tried to evacuate, but the roads were full of cracks. Although they managed to return home, they had no access to running water and were forced to spend the night in their cars in preparation for frequent aftershocks.
