◆Overview
August 8, 2024 at the Institute for Planetary Materials (Misasa Town, Tottori Prefecture), one of the organizations that constitutes the Institute for Advanced Research of Okayama University (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Okayama City, President: Yasutomo Nasu). , held a research results presentation, completion ceremony, and farewell party for the Misasa International Student Internship Program (MISIP).
The research results presentation session began with opening greetings from Associate Professor Takuya Kunihiro, the MISIP committee chair.Afterwards, the 10 internship students from seven countries who participated in MISIP will participate in six research projects each for approximately six weeks at the research institute. We announced the results of our research activities.
At the completion ceremony following the presentation, Director Yoshino of the Institute for Polar and Planetary Materials presented certificates of completion and commemorative Institute for Planetary Materials goods to the 10 internship students.
At the farewell party after the completion ceremony, all faculty members and graduate students from the Institute for Planetary Materials participated, enjoying a meal and congratulating the internship students for their six weeks of hard work. Although the internship students were sad to say goodbye to everyone, they spent their final time at the Institute for Planetary Materials with smiles on their faces.
Lisa Vincent, a participant from Utrecht University, looked back on her internship and said, “It was an internship where I was blessed with many people. It was a lot of fun to be able to visit various parts of Japan with all the internship students. I am very grateful to Professor Trishit for guiding me through this process.I would like to come back to the Institute for Planetary Materials as a researcher someday,” he said, expressing his gratitude for the internship program and his future aspirations.
Through MISIP, which lasted about 6 weeks, the 10 internship students who completed the entire program were placed at the research institute, with the hope that the small connections forged across borders in Misasa would become large connections that will lead to the development of science in the future. We sent them out in full force. Okayama University has designated the fields of planetary science and astrophysics as one of its “top research fields.” Furthermore, we are promoting this as an important initiative in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s “Project to Promote the Strengthening of Regional Core and Distinctive Research Universities (J-PEAKS)” (implemented by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science), for which our university was selected last year. Please continue to look forward to the activities of Okayama University, a regional core and distinctive research university, and the Institute for Planetary Materials, the Institute for Advanced Research, which plays a part in it.
