◆Overview

Okayama University has been selected for the AMED Next Generation Medical Device Collaboration Center Development Project
(FY2019-FY2023), and has been running the open innovation program BIZEN (Business Innovation Zone for Entrepreneurship), which aims to develop human resources for medical device development and create startups. has been maintained. Our university’s open innovation goal is to build a medical device development ecosystem centered on this program. BIZEN will play a central role in establishing a development and commercialization scheme that performs appropriate core management according to the characteristics and stage of the project, and will enable projects to advance from Okayama to the world through commercialization and start-up from medical device development. Furthermore, last year, our university was selected for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s “Regional Core and Distinctive Research Universities Promotion Project (J-PEAKS)” (implemented by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science), and is engaged in research and innovation activities aimed at social change. We are implementing this strategically. In particular, transforming society through the development of innovative medical and healthcare technologies is one of the important missions of Okayama University Hospital and its medical departments. The selection for the project (startup support reinforcement framework) will further accelerate J-PEAKS’ activities.
We will continue to promote initiatives that utilize the functions of our bases to address various issues surrounding medical healthcare.
