The Kobe Fashion Museum will be holding a special exhibition “Finnish Lifestyle Exhibition – Design to Enrich Your Life” from Saturday, September 14th.
Wonderful things and things from Finland, the happiest country in the world ……
Finland, the land of forests and lakes, is also known as a design superpower. After declaring independence in the 20th century, Finland began to fully establish design as an industry, creating its own unique style while being influenced by Art Nouveau and Bauhaus. Its unique shape and color, which can be seen on tableware and furniture, have been carefully considered for functionality. While such rationality is considered to be a characteristic, the work of many Finnish designers is characterized by a somewhat warm design inspired by nature. Today, Finnish design is loved all over the world as an item that satisfies both decoration and convenience, adding color to people’s lives.

a. Timo Sarpaneva creates a number of art glass and practical glass products, aiming to fuse art and functionality.
Having produced many works, Ilmari Tapiovaara has created simple and practical masterpieces.
Masterpieces born from the Finnish lifestyle are gathered here. Chapter 2…ORGANIC~With nature
Tapio Wirkkala was called the “Leonardo da Vinci of Finland.” Birger Kaipiainen creates art pieces with motifs such as birds and flowers. Fujio Ishimoto used his flexible and flexible ideas to express the phenomena of the four seasons in textiles, and Oiva Toikka created a world of glass filled with humor and fun. Jorma Vennola’s fir wood glassware with impressive three-dimensional embossed patterns has received rave reviews around the world, and Ruud Brück has created a beautiful yet ephemeral world of fantasy with ceramics.
Although their approaches are different, each artist creates works based on the nature they personally experience.
Chapter 3…FINLAND and JAPAN ~ Finnish design in Japan
Reproductions and special orders of masterpieces of Finnish design that were forced to go out of stock due to the trends of the times. “Scope”. A textile brand launched by two creators, one Japanese and one Finnish. “Kauniste”. “Iwatemo” connects Iwate workshops and Finnish designers. Although the efforts are made by three people, they are full of respect and love for manufacturing.
Chapter 4…TRADITIONAL LIFESTYLES and HANDICRAFTS ~ Traditional handicrafts and culture
Finnish birch work and Japanese folk crafts using bamboo and vines. A Finnish textile reminiscent of kogin-zashi from the Tohoku region. Saunas and baths are similar in that they both calm the mind and body. We also have things in common with Finland in terms of handcrafts and culture. ◎Contact us Kobe Fashion Museum (Designated manager: Kobe Shimbun Regional Creation/Kobe Shimbun Corporation joint venture) Person in charge: ImanakaTEL: 078-858-0050URL:
