◆Overview
The Perinatal Maternal and Child Medical Center is a medical facility that provides advanced medical care related to the perinatal period.While making the most of limited medical resources, both obstetrics and neonatal departments work closely together. The aim is to provide residents of the prefecture with sufficient services related to perinatal medical care.
Perinatal maternal and child medical centers are certified by each prefecture and are divided into “comprehensive perinatal maternal and child medical centers” and “regional perinatal maternal and child medical centers” depending on the scale of the facility. .
The Comprehensive Perinatal Maternal and Child Medical Center is equipped with MFICU (Maternal Fetal Intensive Care Unit), NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), and GCU (Growing Care Unit). This is a facility.
Okayama University Hospital of National University Corporation Okayama University (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Okayama City, President: Yasutomo Nasu) has been operating as a regional perinatal maternal and child medical center with a 6-bed NICU and 12-bed neonatal unit (GCU story not included). However, if the NICU was full, we would request that the mother be transferred to a nearby hospital or that the newborn be admitted.
However, in recent years, the importance of receiving obstetric emergencies and the need to accept premature infants born due to maternal complications and newborns with severe congenital surgical diseases has increased.
Therefore, after consultation with Okayama Prefecture and nearby hospitals, we would like to inform you that we will expand the NICU and GCU at Okayama University Hospital from September 1, 2024. Furthermore, we plan to establish an MFICU in 2025.
Please look forward to the continued efforts of the regional core and distinctive research universities: Okayama University and Okayama University Hospital.
