Edge AI company Idein participates in Ehime Prefecture’s digital implementation acceleration project, creating a “shopping district revitalization support service” using AI cameras
*Using Imabari Ginza Shopping District as a role model, we aim to expand from Ehime Prefecture to the rest of the country*
*
Idein Co., Ltd. (pronounced: Idein, head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Nakamura) operates the edge AI platform “Actcast” (pronounced: Actcast)
Koichi) will be participating in a project that aims to use AI cameras to visualize the flow of people in shopping streets and improve the circulation rate. This is part of Ehime Prefecture’s digital implementation acceleration project “Triangle Ehime,” and it was decided to continue implementation from last year. *
Measuring the flow of people using an AI camera (as carried out last year) * ■Overview of this project*
“Triangle Ehime” aims to implement digital solutions and related technologies owned by companies inside and outside Ehime Prefecture to businesses and local governments within the prefecture, and to take on the challenge of solving regional issues such as improving earning power and developing digital human resources. This is a project promoted by Ehime Prefecture.
The project “Visualizing the flow of people in Imabari shopping district and improving the circulation rate using AI cameras” was selected for this project again from last year. Our company will participate as a member of the implementation project in the “Project i Executive Committee” whose project leader is GTO LLC, and continue to promote the project in terms of AI technology as last year*1. *1 Ehime Prefecture Press Release: The Triangle Ehime Promotion Project “Digital Implementation Acceleration Project” has been selected to continue in 2026!

* ■Last year’s results of this project*
・Background of project implementation
Imabari Ginza Shopping Street is adjacent to Imabari Port, which is the gateway to the island, and was once a bustling area with a large department store. However, with the opening of the Shimanami Kaido connecting Imabari City and Onomichi City in 1999, tourism routes changed, and with the opening of shopping malls in the suburbs, the number of users decreased sharply, and many tenants closed their doors. ・Project implementation details
The first step toward revitalizing this shopping district was to install AI cameras in the shopping district to understand the actual situation and trends of users. By measuring detailed crowd flow data 24 hours a day, including the gender and age of users, time of stay, and number of people, we compared and verified changes in crowd flow between normal times when there are few people and events when there are many people. By holding multiple events with different targets during the installation period of the AI camera, it becomes possible to verify the attributes of shopping district users and the customer attraction effect of the event based on data, and implement more effective customer attraction measures and tenant attraction measures. It is now possible to plan.

* ■This year’s initiatives*
Continuing from last year, we will install AI cameras in the Imabari Ginza shopping district to implement data-based measures and verify their effectiveness. Based on the knowledge we have gained, we will transform the people flow measurement plan using edge AI cameras into a “shopping district revitalization support service” and connect it to regional revitalization nationwide, including local governments in Ehime Prefecture.
Overview of “Shopping District Revitalization Support Service” * ■Data collection with privacy in mind*
Edge AI cameras have overwhelmingly superior security compared to cloud AI cameras. The acquired images and videos are processed in real time within the camera and are not sent to the cloud. The data sent to the server does not contain any personally identifying information, only text data resulting from the analysis. Since images and videos are not retained in the camera, there is no risk of data leakage in the unlikely event that the device is stolen.
* ■About the edge AI platform “Actcast”*
Actcast is a platform service for AI solution development companies. By using Actcast for the infrastructure commonly required for the social implementation of AI solutions, we will be able to implement various AI services that utilize AI cameras, AI microphones, etc. at low cost, quickly, and on a large scale. Masu.
-Other features of “Actcast”-
-Use sensing devices equipped with cameras, microphones, thermometers, etc. to collect and utilize all kinds of information in real space. ・Manage and operate a large number of devices remotely
・The total number of registered devices exceeds 16,000, and we have a rich track record of full-scale implementation and large-scale operation.
・We have formed a strong ecosystem with over 170 partner companies from various industries.
・Edge AI sends only the minimum necessary information to the cloud, so it can be used while taking privacy and confidential information into consideration.
・Advanced AI analysis can be performed on small, inexpensive general-purpose devices, significantly reducing device costs. ・Using Idein’s unique acceleration technology, cutting-edge AI analysis can be performed without reducing the weight of the AI model.
* ■Idein Co., Ltd. Overview*
It is a startup with unparalleled technical capabilities in the world that has realized high-speed deep learning inference on inexpensive general-purpose devices. We have developed “Actcast”, an on-site data collection platform using edge AI using this technology, and provide services to developers and business companies that develop, introduce, and utilize practical AI/IoT systems. We will continue to work with partner companies to contribute to the spread of AI/IoT systems. With the mission of “making it possible to handle all kinds of information in the real world with software,” in Japan, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry
In addition to being selected as a J-Startup, we have also been selected as a NEXT unicorn company by Nihon Keizai Shimbun. AI from Arm, UK
We have received high praise overseas, including being selected as a Partner and an Inception Program Partner by NVIDIA (USA).
