Release of room air conditioner equipped with new function “Weak cooling [Note 1]” mode and “Plasma air purification” that can deodorize
~Focusing on cooling the air conditioner during the prolonged summer and responding to a lifestyle where you leave the air on all day~ ……
Toshiba Lifestyle Corporation will release nine models of the flagship model “DR series” as new products of the room air conditioner “Taiseikai” from late October. The new product is equipped with a new “low cooling” mode that slowly cools the room while reducing power consumption, to suit the lifestyle of leaving the air conditioner on for long periods of time. In addition to the “Power Saving [Note 2]” mode that uses our proprietary [*1] “Radar” to conveniently save power, you can select the power saving function according to the usage scenario. In addition, the air purification function “Plasma Air Purification” has been newly confirmed to have a deodorizing effect [Note 3], in pursuit of “power saving” and “comfort” when using air conditioners for a long time.

The summer heat is becoming more severe year by year, and appropriate use of air conditioners is required to protect ourselves from the heat. Additionally, according to our analysis of IoT service usage data [*2], “air conditioning” is mainly used from around mid-May to early October, and air conditioners are operated in cooling mode for nearly half of the year. I found that many users do so. However, due to the recent rise in electricity costs, there is a growing desire to use air conditioners while saving as much electricity as possible. The new product “DR series” maintains the high energy-saving performance of the previous model [*3], but has further enhanced power-saving functions. A new “low cooling” mode has been added that slowly cools the room while reducing power consumption. In addition to being recommended for saving energy when leaving the air conditioner on for long periods of time, it also prevents sudden temperature drops after starting operation, making it comfortable for people who don’t like strong air conditioning.
In addition, the “Energy Saving Cooling” mode uses our proprietary “radar” to continuously apply wind to the air to save energy while maintaining a sense of coolness. It has evolved into a function that allows you to spend a comfortable time while saving energy throughout the year.
In addition, the deodorizing effect of “Plasma Air Cleaning,” an air purifying function that collects particles at the PM0.1 [Note 4] to PM2.5 [Note 5] level in the air, has been newly verified and its effectiveness has been confirmed. In addition, the dedicated app “IoLIFE” provided by our company has an enhanced weekly timer function that allows you to specify on/off times for each day of the week, and also allows you to specify the operating mode and temperature setting. Through this product, we will propose a lifestyle that fulfills both the “power saving” and “comfort” needs of our customers in air conditioners.
*1 Domestic home air conditioners (as of September 3, 2024, according to our research) *2 Based on the usage history of our IoLIFE service. Analysis results based on daily driving data from June 2023 to June 2024. *3 N-DR series released in November 2023

Note 1: Evaluated using RAS-U402DR under our own conditions. Cooling: Comparison between normal cooling operation and weak cooling operation in our environmental test room (12 tatami mats). Comparison of power consumption for 3 hours after starting operation with outside temperature 30℃, normal cooling setting temperature “27℃” (low cooling fixed at 27℃), and air volume “Auto”. 956Wh during normal cooling operation, 494Wh during weak cooling operation. (Effects vary depending on the installation environment and usage conditions of the air conditioner)
Note 2: Evaluated using RAS-U402DR under our own conditions. Cooling: Comparison between normal cooling operation and energy-saving cooling operation in our environmental test room (11 tatami). Comparison of power consumption for 1 hour from 20 minutes after the start of operation with outside temperature 35℃, set temperature “24℃”, and airflow rate “Auto”. 1,132Wh during normal cooling operation, 662Wh during energy-saving cooling operation. Heating: Comparison between normal heating operation and energy-saving heating operation in our environmental test room (11 tatami mats). Comparison of power consumption for 1 hour from 20 minutes after the start of operation, with outside temperature 7℃, set temperature “20℃”, and airflow rate “Auto”. 933Wh during normal heating operation, 533Wh during energy saving heating operation. (Effects vary depending on the installation environment and usage conditions of the air conditioner)
Note 3: [Testing agency] GUANDONG DETECTION CENTER OF MICROBIOLOGY [Test method] Based on China GB/T 18801-2022 [Test results] Confirmed reduction of odor intensity of 1 or more in pet odor, tobacco odor, and garbage odor [Report No.】2024FM02344R01Da. (It is not possible to remove all odor components that constantly occur.)
Note 4: PM0.1 is a general term for fine particulate matter with a size of 0.09 to 0.11 μm. [Test institution] Living Science Research Institute Co., Ltd. [Test method] Smoke from cigarettes (5 cigarettes) was generated in a 31㎥ test chamber, and the air conditioner was operated to clean the air. Measure the particle concentration inside the chamber (center of the room, 92cm above the floor) over time. [Test result] 98% reduction in 90 minutes compared to before air purification operation [Report No.] LSRL-42021-F113
Note 5: PM2.5 is a general term for fine particulate matter of 2.5 μm or less. In the removal performance test based on JEM1467, removal of microparticulate matter less than 0.1 μm was not confirmed. Also, it cannot remove all harmful substances in the air. This is the effect in a closed space of 32㎥ (approximately 8 tatami mats) and is not the result in the actual space. [Test method] Based on the Japan Electrical Manufacturers Association standard “JEM1467: Removal performance for fine particulate matter (PM2.5)”. [Judgment criteria] It takes less than 90 minutes to remove 99% of fine particulate matter of 0.1 to 2.5 μm in a closed space of 32 m3 (approximately 8 tatami mats). [Tested at 31㎥ (approximately 7.8 tatami). This is a value converted to a test space of 32㎥ (approximately 8 tatami mats). ]
