QIX Co., Ltd. and Teikyo University enter into an agreement regarding the development and sale of products for animals using patent-pending inventions.

Kaga, Itabashi-ku, Tokyo] (hereinafter referred to as “Teikyo University”) has officially entered into an exclusive non-exclusive license agreement for the development and sale of animal products using the university’s patent-pending invention for the natural ingredient citral. We would like to inform you that we have concluded the agreement.
This agreement provides exclusive use of the antifungal and
antibacterial effects of citral to develop and sell products for animals. Canine Malassezia dermatitis is a common skin disease that is often diagnosed, partly due to the influence of Japan’s climate. Treatment generally includes skin care shampoos containing miconazole, an azole antifungal drug, or oral administration of antifungal drugs. Recently, there have been reports that resistant strains have developed resistance due to mutations in the ergosterol synthase gene [ERG11 gene], which is the target of azole antifungal drugs, and the veterinary medical industry has also begun to consider
countermeasures. This canine Malassezia dermatitis is also related to the patient’s constitution, so once infected, it often requires lifelong control, and there is a need for new treatment methods to replace the continuous use of drugs.
This agreement is expected to contribute as a new treatment/prevention option for canine Malassezia dermatitis, which is long-awaited in the veterinary medical industry.
