Kyoto Arashiyama Autumn Leaves Rokuoin Special Night Visit 2024 *The elegant illumination that brought out the charm of a Zen temple was sold out last year. The impressive stone-paved approach leading from the Sanmon Gate and Japan’s first flat-style dry landscape garden with Arashiyama in the background attract visitors. *
Kakuoyama Rakuo-in Temple (Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City) will hold a special night visit from November 15th (Friday) to December 8th (Sunday), 2024.
Rokuo-in Temple was founded by Yoshimitsu Ashikaga and boasted the status of being the fifth of Kyoto’s ten temples, but it is one of the oldest temples in Rakusai, and is the only sub-temple that has been rebuilt among the Houkoku Zen-ji temples, which were burnt down during the Onin and Bunmei War. It is a famous temple. Japan’s first flat-style dry landscape garden, with Arashiyama as its backdrop, is a designated scenic spot by Kyoto City. Along with the stone-paved approach that leads from Sanmon to Chumon, it is a famous spot for autumn leaves that only those in the know know.

[Weekdays only] Premium visit
We are planning to entertain you with Kyoto’s traditional culture, Kyogen. Enjoy a premium experience with sophisticated illumination that brings out the charm of a Zen temple.
This night viewing is limited to 150 people per day (advance application required). The lighting that illuminates the precincts is a Zen temple that uses foot lamps to create a path of light that leads from reality to the world of Buddha, and the Shariden where the Buddha’s tusks are enshrined, as well as the autumn leaves, pine trees, and mokkoku in the garden, are bathed in soft light. We are planning an elegant illumination that will take advantage of its charm.
