*“Swan Dance in Ikebukuro” will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Nakaikebukuro Park in Toshima Ward. This year, in addition to live music by the Shiratori Odori Preservation Society, many local Gujo industries and restaurants will open their doors, recreating Gujo’s Shiratori Bon Odori culture in Ikebukuro*

“Swan Odori” is one of the two major Bon dances in Gujo.*
has its roots in the “haiden dance,” which has a history of over 300 years. The songs and dances for the worship hall dance were developed by the Shiratori Odori Preservation Society, which was formed in 1945, and in the 1950s it developed into a “machi odori” with music by shamisen, flute, and drums.

Due to the variety and exhilaration of its steps, it has earned the nickname “Swan Mambo”*, and the dance is currently held in Gujo from July to September, centering around the three-day Obon all-night dance. *

This event started last year. WACCA was planned by Gujo
Hangurayashiki, a project of Gujo City that aims to research and disseminate local industries in Gujo City and deepen exchanges with Tokyo.
Through collaboration with IKEBUKURO and Hareza Ikebukuro, more than 300 people gathered and a spectacular view was created in the city of Ikebukuro.
Last year, the event was held after the coronavirus pandemic had subsided, but Hareza was renovated in 2020 as a town where anyone can play a leading role.
The event became a symbol of a new endeavor for Ikebukuro.
