Shimane Prefectural Iwami Art Museum holds special exhibition “Iwami-born mechanical designer Kimitoshi Yamane”
Kimitoshi Yamane (1966-) is a native of Kawamoto-cho, Shimane Prefecture. He came to Tokyo after being exposed to the anime boom of the late 1970s and 1980s, graduated from a vocational school’s animation department while working, and realized his dream of becoming a mechanical designer by bringing his work to a studio involved in animation production. Since 2000, we have established a base in Shimane Prefecture and established a working style based on remote work with Tokyo.
This exhibition will feature works such as “Cowboy Bebop”, which was his first time being entrusted with mechanical design and which became his masterpiece, as well as “Mobile Suit Gundam” directed by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, who will be holding a solo exhibition at the same time.
THE ORIGIN” “Mobile Suit Gundam”
We will exhibit original drawings and related materials of mecha designs such as “The Island of Cucurrus Doan”, and introduce a number of works that are attracting attention not only from Japan but also from overseas.
