Announcement of investment in the world’s first commercial SOEC type green ammonia development company ~Challenge to establish a green ammonia supply chain~
Manies Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “the Company”) is a subsidiary of Mercuria Holdings Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Mercuria”) and TN Plan Ltd. Up until now, most of ammonia has been produced from fossil fuels such as natural gas, oil, and coal, and has been used mainly for fertilizer purposes, but with technological development, it will become a zero-emission product that does not emit CO2 even when burned. Expectations are rising for its direct use as a fuel, i.e., fuel ammonia, in thermal power generation, industrial furnaces, ships, etc., as well as its use as a hydrogen carrier.
Also, among ammonia, green ammonia uses only renewable energy in the manufacturing process, reducing CO2 emissions.
Although it can be manufactured without generating any waste, there are currently few examples of large-scale commercial plants.
FA is aiming to commercialize the world’s first large-scale green ammonia production plant by using SOEC (Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cell), a next-generation water electrolyzer developed by Denmark’s Topsoe.

We are planning a green ammonia production plant that utilizes. A highly efficient plant that combines Topsoe’s SOEC and ammonia production equipment can keep power consumption low and can adjust production according to the amount of electricity supplied,
contributing to grid stability. .
FA has signed a long-term preferential supply contract with Topsoe for SOEC with a power usage scale of 5GW*, and aims to develop 20 projects in the United States, South America, Southeast Asia, and Europe by 2030. The first plant is Port, Texas, USA.

The project is planned in Victoria (300 MW of power consumption), and aims to begin construction in 2025 and begin commercial operations in 2026 under a long-term supply contract with German energy company Uniper.
*Per 100MW, CO2 emission reduction is 180,000 to 240,000 tons per year, and ammonia production is 100,000 tons per year.
Through this investment, we expect to contribute to our own investment income, and by working with FA to expand our business by developing projects in Asia and cultivating off-takers, we will supply green ammonia mainly to Japan and Asia. The purpose is to contribute to chain building and create opportunities for Japanese and Asian companies to participate in the green ammonia business.
