The Sports Darts Project, which is being undertaken by (Higashi), held the “2nd Sports Darts Competition 2024″ on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at Tokyo Big Sight West 2 Hall.
What is a sports darts competition?
The 0th tournament was held for the first time in 2022
Since its inception, the Sports Darts Project has been promoting the experience of darts as part of physical education classes and extracurricular activities at children’s centers, elementary schools, junior high schools, and high schools. We hold sports darts
competitions as a place for children who practice darts on a daily basis to demonstrate their achievements and achieve their goals. In 2022, the first sports darts competition was held for the first time as the 0th competition. This year will be the third time this tournament has been held. The grade divisions from last year have been abolished and changed to a two-division system: [U-18] and [U-12]. The number of participants increased and the venue scaled up. The match was played in doubles format between two players.

In the U-12 category, 32 players from 16 groups participated in this tournament, and the level of competition was improved from last year. During the practice time before the match, they communicated in a friendly manner, but once the match started, the competition got serious. There were times when they were disappointed when they couldn’t play as well as they wanted, and times when they praised their opponents when they got a high score.
The winning pair demonstrated an outstanding combination
After a heated competition, the winner was the elementary school pair of Shiro Kobayashi (6) and Satsuki Yazu (9).
In the final match held on stage, the venue was filled with excitement as they brilliantly hit the bull in the middle.
Kobayashi is the youngest player in this tournament at 6 years old. I met Yazu, my partner this time, at a darts lesson held by the Sports Darts Project.
In an interview after the match, he confidently said, “I’m so happy that we were able to win,” and “At first I wasn’t able to pitch well, but I got better and better and was able to win.”

[U-18] High-level match, championship won by sibling pair
In the U-18 category, 28 groups and 56 players participated. A high-level match that put adults to shame was held. The winners were Yotaro Aono (17) and Tara Aono.

In the final match on stage, he played like a professional, scoring a hat trick from the first game. After a close battle, we won the victory with a strong effort.

The tournament will continue to be a goal for the children
By continuing to hold sports darts competitions in the future, the Sports Darts Project hopes to make the competitions aspirational and where participating in them becomes a goal in itself. We will not only grow as a tournament, but also make it a turning point in the future of darts culture, and beyond that, we will lead to the future of darts as a sport that everyone can enjoy.
