Yokoo Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President: Takayuki Tokuma) has recently developed the world’s smallest *1 spring connector *2 (SPC) with a diameter of only Φ0.35mm, the first of its kind. Yokoo has commercialized its first USB4-compatible “high-speed transmission 40Gbps waterproof connector” using this technology.Sample shipments will begin in October.
The narrowest tube diameter of Yokoo’s SPCs so far was Φ0.85mm, but the diameter of the world’s smallest SPC we have developed this time is Φ0.35mm, which is about 60% smaller. This is by leveraging our know-how in manufacturing contact probes used in semiconductor inspection jigs, one of our businesses, and combining the mass production required for electronic components with cost-effective manufacturing methods to create the world’s smallest SPC. I was able to develop it.
Yokowo is also the first in the industry*1 to commercialize a USB4-compatible 40Gbps high-speed waterproof connector that uses the world’s smallest SPC. This product meets the strict USB4 standard by reducing signal attenuation with the thin SPC and suppressing noise with the metal housing. Furthermore, due to potting, while maintaining high waterproof performance equivalent to IPX7, the diameter of the SPC is small, making it possible to lay out many SPCs in a small space, contributing to miniaturization of the connector size.
As equipment continues to become smaller in various industries, parts are also required to be smaller and lighter in order to make more efficient use of limited space. We believe that the world’s smallest spring connector that we have developed will contribute to customers’ design freedom by achieving greater space savings than ever before while maintaining the advantages of SPC in terms of easy attachment and detachment.
