Developed a digital twin system that combines 4D model and web camera monitoring *Reproducing past, present, and future sites in digital space*
Okumura Gumi Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Abeno-ku, Osaka, President and CEO: Takanori Okumura) and DTS Insight Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Isao Asami) are working to improve the sophistication and efficiency of on-site management. We have jointly developed a 4D model/on-site video collaboration system (hereinafter referred to as the “System”) that aims to improve productivity.
* [Background] *
At construction sites, it is important to accurately understand and efficiently manage complex construction conditions. Generally, the person in charge understands the construction status by regularly inspecting the site, but in difficult construction projects with complex processes or large-scale construction projects with a wide construction scope, the person in charge can grasp the overall image of the site only by visual inspection. Not only is it difficult to do so, but it also requires a great deal of time and effort.
In order to solve this problem, we decided to utilize digital twin technology*1, which has been attracting attention in recent years, to develop a system that can accurately and easily grasp the situation on-site.
*1 Technology that acquires data from real space and reproduces it in digital space in real time.
* [Overview/Features] *
This system reproduces a construction site in a digital space using a 4D model*2 (Figure 1), and is based on DTS Insight Co., Ltd.’s IoT platform technology and Okumura Gumi’s own 4D simulation*3 technology and know-how. This was achieved by combining.
*2 A 3D model with process information added to each construction step. *3 Utilizing a 4-dimensional model to perform simulations according to the construction steps.

The features of this system are as follows.
1. Operation and viewing functions on a web browser
All operations can be performed on a web browser, so there is no need for a high-performance PC or special software.If you have a good internet environment, you can view a 4D model that reflects the progress of the site from a remote location such as an office. You can check.
2.4-dimensional simulation function
By placing 3D models of heavy equipment, safety equipment, etc. registered in the system in advance at any location within the 4D model, simulations can be easily performed according to the
construction steps (Figure 2).

3.Past video recording function
Past 4D models and web camera images can be viewed on the system. To reduce cloud storage capacity, web camera footage is automatically converted to time-lapse video after a certain period of time.
* [On-site application] *
This system was applied to Okumura Gumi’s road bridge replacement work site, and the following items were confirmed.
– It was possible to grasp the construction status in real time in digital space even from a remote location such as an office. – By using 4D simulation, we were able to smoothly consider construction plans and traffic regulations, etc., involving all parties involved.
* [Future developments] *
In the future, we will work to improve the usability of the system based on feedback from the field, and also consider developing image analysis functions using AI, aiming to further improve the
sophistication of this system.
