Dialogue Japan Society (Minato-ku, Representative: Kisoe Shimura), a general incorporated association that provides social entertainment programs, offers dialogue that transcends language barriers in a world without sound under the guidance of a hearing-impaired attendant. Enjoyable entertainment program “Dialogue in Silence”
showcase in Osaka” was held from August 5th (Monday) to August 9th (Friday) with special cooperation from Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. *
Experience: Trying to communicate in a “world without sound” “Dialogue in Silence” is an entertainment program where you can enjoy dialogue that transcends language barriers in a world without sound, accompanied by a hearing-impaired attendant. This time, the essence of this program was condensed into 60 minutes, and it was held for the first time in Osaka, with more than 200 people experiencing it over four days.

Guests (experiencers) form a team of nine people and wear
sound-blocking headsets on their heads. The experience began after a hearing-impaired attendant (guide) explained the rules using gestures, such as, “Let’s take a break from chatting in voice and sign language and enjoy the ride.” Enjoy the game using only body language and facial expressions as you try to communicate in a world without sound. Even though we were in a different and unfamiliar environment, we were able to smile when we got to know each other.
At the end of the experience, the headset was removed and the hearing-impaired attendant and the guest used a variety of tools, including facial expressions, body language, written communication, and voice, to discuss their impressions of the experience.
Guest comment: “The important thing in communication is smiling and making eye contact.”
At first, the guests were nervous and confused by the gestures, but with the support of the attendants, their expressions gradually softened and they began to actively try the game. Additionally, although most of the teams met each other for the first time, there were many scenes in which they looked each other in the eye and laughed at the end, overcoming the language barrier and communicating.

From the guests
* “I felt that even if we don’t have a common language or are of different races, there is a way to express our feelings to each other.” *
* “I learned the importance and fun of expressing what I want to convey, what I want to convey, and what I want to understand through non-verbal means” *
* “The important thing in communication is smiling and making eye contact” * * “Sign language is fun. It’s a good way to express your feelings (8 years old)”* We heard comments such as:

In 2025, the Deaflympics, an Olympics for deaf athletes, will be held for the first time in Japan, and a major challenge is how to deal with the deaf athletes and deaf tourists who come to Japan from about 80 countries and regions around the world. I am.
“Dialogue in Silence” is scheduled to be held at the Dialogue Diversity Museum “Dialogue Forest” in Takeshiba, Tokyo from December 1, 2024.
We will continue to collaborate with various companies and governments to hold the event as an opportunity to build social momentum for the Deaflympics and reconsider communication between people.
Information about the Deaflympics will also be displayed at the venue. After the experience, there was an explanation from a staff member who had participated in past Deaflympics as a sign language interpreter. “Dialogue in Silence showcase in Osaka” event overview
