California rice “Calrose” cooking class is popular! Communicating the versatility and “power of ingredients” of Calrose to 526 people through 13 chefs

Original recipe developed by 16 chefs/Photo: Yusuke Onuma (Ryori Kingdom) The USA Rice Federation Japan Representative Office [Headquarters: Virginia, USA], which carries out activities to promote awareness of Californian rice “Calrose”, has tied up with the magazine “Ryori Kingdom” [Cooking Kingdom Academy “Calrose” tie-up lesson] was held for about a month from the end of June to the end of July. 16 official chefs from the Culinary Kingdom Academy participated and developed original recipes using Calrose. Thirteen of them held cooking classes, and a total of 526 students experienced the charm of Calrose through cooking and eating. “In the survey, it received high praise for its versatility, deliciousness, and ease of cooking.”
The 13 people who held the classes introduced multiple Calrose recipes, and 526 general consumers were given the opportunity to cook and eat 30 menus over a period of approximately one month. From rice salads and risotto to appetizers, soups, main dishes, and desserts, the menu took advantage of Calrose’s versatility as an ingredient. Click here for classroom details

For this project, we conducted a survey of 13 chefs and 526 students (441 valid responses), and received the following favorable
evaluations regarding Calrose.
Questionnaire for chefs: The range of food menus has expanded ●Level of interest in Calrose: 100% answered that it was very interesting/interesting
Main reasons – Calrose’s versatility, ease of cooking, and light taste without stickiness
It was praised for its non-stickiness, which expanded the range of menu options, the ability to use different types of rice for each dish to improve the quality of rice, and the ease of boiling and cooking. ●Would you like to continue using Calrose in your lessons? 93% said they would like to use it
Survey for students ~Discovering new ways to eat rice~
●Impressions of Calrose Lessons: 98% found it interesting
Main reasons: “It was delicious”, “The texture was good”, “It expands the range of dishes”
On the menu, people said, “This is my first time trying rice salad,” and on the ease of preparation, “It seems easy,” and “I was surprised that it can be used after boiling.”
Many people expressed their interest in the novelty of the product. ●Do you want to buy Calrose? 90% answered yes
In addition to the real-life cooking class experience, information about Calrose’s features and versatility was effectively spread through the SNS of popular chefs with many followers. We will also report on the USA Rice Federation’s social media.
Based on these results, the USA Rice Federation will continue to promote awareness of Calrose through chefs. The recipe page on our association’s website will be updated and published from time to time with recipes by chefs.
