◆Overview
Motonari Kobayashi, a technical specialist in the Equipment Analysis and Animal and Plant Resources Technology Division of the General Technology Department, which is one of the organizations that constitutes the Technology Management and Supervisory Headquarters of Okayama University (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Okayama City, President: Yasutomo Nasu), is a national university corporation. Received the “Organic Microanalysis Research Group 70th Anniversary Special Achievement Award.”
Kobayashi, a technical specialist, is assigned to the analysis and measurement field of the Natural Life Science Research Support Center of our university, and has been receiving standard samples from the Japanese Society of Analytical Chemistry Organic Trace Research Group Standard Sample Subcommittee about three times a year since December 2018. Upon commission of a certification, we measure standard samples using an elemental analyzer and submit the data.
A standard sample is a reference material when performing organic trace analysis, and it guarantees the actual content when measuring the amount of elements in a sample. By measuring this standard sample, you can also check the performance and stability of your elemental analyzer.
This time, we received the award in recognition of our contribution to maintaining the quality of standard sample testing. Upon receiving the award, Technical Specialist Kobayashi said, “This award was due to the guidance of my seniors who were involved in elemental analysis, and the understanding and cooperation of members within the field. I want to carry out precise measurements and engage in measurements that are more reproducible,” he said of his aspirations.
In addition, Deputy Director/Vice President/Senior URA Norihito Sato, Head of the General Technology Department, said, “I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all of you for allowing our
university’s technical staff to receive such a prestigious award. I would like to express my respect for the dedicated and accurate technology provided by our university’s technical staff over many years. Our university’s technical staff not only carry out educational and research activities at the university, but also research, analyze, and evaluate the technologies that support society and the foundations of these technologies. We hope that our technical staff will continue to support us in contributing to society through our technology.” Okayama University is implementing various initiatives as a
research-first research university in order to realize Okayama University’s long-term vision 2050: “A research university that co-creates the future of the region and the earth and contributes to global innovation.” The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s “Project to Promote the Strengthening of Regional Core and Distinctive Research Universities (J-PEAKS)” (implemented by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science), which was adopted last year, aims to improve the sophistication of university staff, including technical staff, and improve their knowledge. The entire university is strategically working to develop knowledge workers who can create new value. We have produced a large number of highly skilled engineers, such as the technical specialist Kobayashi, who has helped to promote science, technology and innovation in Japan, and to bring about better social change. Please continue to look forward to the activities of Okayama University, a regional core and distinctive research university, and the technical staff who play a part in it.
