*A glittering 1400-year-old dynasty is now revived in Tokyo! * From October 11th (Friday) to December 1st (Sunday), 2024, the Japan-China Friendship Center Museum will hold a special event called “Chang’an Night Banquet”.
The exhibition, titled “The Exhibition of Food, Clothing, and Shelter in the Tang Dynasty,” focuses on the clothing, food, shelter, and entertainment culture of the Tang Dynasty in China 1,400 years ago, and features items such as clothing, accessories, tableware, tea utensils, calligraphy, and musical instruments from the time, as well as exhibits from our museum and cooperating organizations.
Approximately 130 ancient artifacts and reproductions owned by Osaka Shichigenkotokan, Mayuyama Ryusendo, and Jitokukotosha will be exhibited and introduced for free.
We present an exhibition that will make you feel like you have traveled back in time to a glittering and glamorous era.

In addition to exhibits that cover various aspects of the food, clothing, shelter, and entertainment of the people of the Tang Dynasty, the museum also provides easy-to-understand explanations using video and audio. In addition, popular videos recreating the music and dance of the time will be screened, and a variety of related events will be held during the exhibition period. This will help your overall understanding.

In addition to relics from the ancient Tang Dynasty, there are also replicas that reproduce the colors and luster of the time. Surrounded by gorgeous and fascinating exhibits that have been brought back to life in modern times, you can feel closer to the world of the Tang Dynasty. Furthermore, the atmosphere of the exhibition hall is based on the concept of “Chang’an Night Banquet,” and you will definitely feel as if you have been invited to a banquet in the Tang Dynasty.

For this exhibition, we will be holding a special event entitled “Night Museum where you can be healed by the sounds of the biwa and the scent of ancient times” for a limited time. Enjoy the rare scent of the Tang Dynasty in the museum at night. In addition, the Chinese restaurant “Fuku” located across from the museum serves the famous gourmet dishes of Xi’an (formerly Chang’an), “Bianbian Noodles” and “Rojia Mo”. There are many unknown experiences that can only be experienced here that will pique your curiosity.

This exhibition is based on the concept of a “banquet,” a place where people can have fun and interact, and divides the clothing, food, and shelter of the people of the Tang Dynasty into four chapters: “Living,” “Dressing,” “Food, Drink,” and “Entertainment.” Let me introduce you.

The Tang Dynasty, which lasted about 300 years, had periods of peace and prosperity for more than 100 years. Under such circumstances, a splendid fashion boom started by the people living in Chang’an. It was an epoch-making event that added color to clothing culture.

Entertainment loved by common people along the Silk Road – acrobatics and Arabian dance. The overwhelming performance that unfolds on stage is a joyous festival that continues even today! Additionally, there will be Japanese dance that depicts stories from the Heian period, a time when there was a lot of interaction with the Tang Dynasty, as well as the exquisite technique of river drama – Henmen. We will deliver an exotic experience on Culture Day.
