* Introducing ingredients from Gunma Prefecture *
* ■Apple *
It is cultivated mainly in high altitude areas such as Tone Numata and Azuma. The climate is perfect for growing apples, as the daylight hours are long and the temperature difference between day and night is large. The apple variety called “Yoko”, delivered by Gunma Prefecture Select regular delivery, has a good balance of sweetness and acidity, and is characterized by its bright red color.
* ■Shimonita green onion *
As the name suggests, Shimonita green onions are a specialty product that originates from being grown in Shimonita Town, Gunma Prefecture. When boiled or grilled, it has a melt-in-your-mouth texture and a unique sweetness and aroma that spreads in your mouth. It is the perfect ingredient for winter stews such as sukiyaki and hot pot cooking.
* ■Strawberry *
Gunma Prefecture’s original variety “Yayoihime” was created by crossing “Tonehoppe” and “Tochiotome.” Generally speaking, the quality of strawberries tends to decline from around March when the temperature rises, but “Yayoi Hime” produces excellent fruit even after March (Yayoi). With its rich sweetness, mellow acidity, and well-balanced juicy flavor, it won the overall grand prize at the Tabe Choku Strawberry Expo 2024, held in January 2024 for strawberry producers nationwide.
