AVENIL Co., Ltd., which operates Japan’s largest network of over 328 temples, “Temple Window” (location: Kita-ku, Sapporo)
Representative: Mori (maiden name: Toshima) Mitsuaki) is a Shinshu Otani sect Kongozan Kyoganji Temple (location: Kita Ward, Sapporo City).
The pet cemetery “Sapporo Pet no Sato” will open on September 16, 2024 in the precincts of Chief Priest: Hozen Toshima.
With the recent declining birthrate and aging population, the demand for pets is increasing.Pets are family members.
With the advent of nuclear families, pets have become a source of comfort for men and women of all ages, and have become part of the family.
However, the lifespan of such pets is about 1/6 of that of humans. In September 2024, we established “Sapporo Pet Village” on the grounds of the Shinshu Otani sect Kyoganji Temple with the desire to create a grave where our beloved pets can sleep together near other people’s graves.
By having a pet grave in a temple, the monk can watch over you at all times, and your precious pets can rest in peace.
The highlight this time is the tombstone designed by K-1 round girl Urara. She is aiming to become a picture book author, and is also a dog lover, and has more love for animals than most people. I asked for the touch of the painting to be soft and “relieving”.

■What is the temple counter?
~Help with the management of guardianship~
In the past, temple culture had a close relationship with the lives of Japanese people and had a great influence on Japanese culture. Unfortunately, this relationship is currently weakening, and as the population declines further in the future, it is expected that the maintenance and management of temples will become more difficult.
Against this backdrop, in 2016, Mitsuaki Toshima (Kyoganji Temple, Otani School of Shinshu Buddhism) opened the “Temple Window” with the aim of fulfilling the “idea and role of temples” in the past.
The primary purpose of “Temple Window” is to inform as many people as possible about temple culture and the state of mind.
However, in addition to that, we also offer “study sessions for temples”, “mall management that provides Buddhist utensils, etc.”, and even “counseling and human resource development projects” in collaboration with companies.
■Comment from K-1 round girl “Urara”
K-1 Round Girl “Urara”
I am very honored to be able to design the tombstone for such a wonderful cemetery.
I am also a dog lover and love animals. While remembering the loneliness of saying goodbye to my beloved family, I drew a picture with the hope that they would live happily together with many friends in the sky.
While I am working as a talent, I am working towards becoming a very popular picture book author that everyone can read and grow up with. I would be happy if more people could learn about “Sapporo Pet Village” in the process.
We hope that “Sapporo Pet Village” will become a place that connects many families and is loved by everyone for many years to come. A picture drawn by Urara
