Tomoiku Co., Ltd. and Chuo University’s joint research confirms that “AI nursery teacher” reduces mothers’ fatigue in raising children – Presented at the 88th Annual Conference of the Japanese Psychological Association –
*Tomoiku Co., Ltd. is collaborating with Chuo University (Professor of Developmental Psychology: Kenkichi Takase) to develop an
“evidence-based childcare support environment” platform that uses “AI nursery teachers” to reduce mothers’ childcare anxiety. We did it jointly. *
* ◆Purpose of joint research*
Using a standardized psychometric scale, we quantitatively
investigated changes in the psychological state of mothers raising children before and after using this service, and determined the impact that the use of AI nursery teachers has on mothers’ sense of childcare burden and customer satisfaction. We have verified the impact.
* ◆Experiment overview*
The 15 mothers were divided into three groups based on their personality test results and the age of their children, and each group exchanged information on how to solve child-rearing problems and other information through LINE chats over a three-month period.
Each group included an AI childcare worker and a potential childcare worker to provide childcare advice and create a system for smooth communication. In each group, we varied the utterance frequency of the AI childcare worker and the utterance frequency of the potential childcare worker, and measured psychological scales and conducted usage questionnaires before, during, and after the demonstration experiment.
*Potential childcare worker: A person who has a childcare worker qualification but is not currently employed as a childcare worker.
* ◆Verification results*
1.About the mother’s psychological status after the demonstration experiment Before and after using the service, mothers’ feelings of emotional exhaustion (feelings of fatigue from being a mother) decreased in the group where the AI childcare worker spoke frequently or the group where the latent childcare worker spoke frequently. Additionally, in the group where the AI childcare worker spoke more frequently, the feeling of being tired of being a mother decreased. These results were announced on September 8, 2024 at the 88th Congress of the Japanese Psychological Association.
2.For AI nursery teachers
Mothers’ evaluations of the quality of AI childcare workers were generally high, with 75% saying it was “quite good” or “good.” Many respondents said that the good thing about AI childcare workers is the speed of their responses, and mothers who are busy with childcare, housework, work, etc. and cannot find time to do so can feel free to use them at their own convenience. The ability to consult with an AI childcare worker and the AI childcare worker’s immediate response was highly praised.

3. Regarding potential childcare workers
Regarding the mothers’ evaluations of the potential childcare workers, 75% said they were “quite good” and 20% said they were “good.” The points that mothers evaluated potential childcare workers were that they gave professional and specific advice, and that they listened empathetically. AI childcare workers quickly provide accurate information, whereas potential childcare workers provide concrete information that incorporates their own experience, which led to high evaluations.
* ◆Conclusion*
In March 2024, we began providing free AI nursery teacher Sakura Sensei, a new service developed based on this demonstration
experiment. Additionally, through this demonstration experiment, we were able to confirm that AI childcare workers reduce mothers’ feelings of child-rearing fatigue. For this reason, TOMOIKU will continue to develop products related to mother support and contribute to improving the well-being of mothers and their families.
