A rebirth story of forest and hope~* “Regenerating forests means reviving hope,” says Tony Rinaudo, who is the developer of the “Resident-led Nature Restoration Approach,” which is promoting forest regeneration in Africa and 26 countries around the world, and will be visiting Japan.

We will hold the first screening of the special edition of “Maker” with Japanese subtitles and a talk event, inviting 160 people free of charge. In the talk session after the screening, film commentator and child sponsor LiLiCo, Tony himself, and WVJ staff took to the stage. The current situation of people in developing countries who are seriously affected by climate change, the story behind the miracle of restoring greenery to 6 million hectares without planting a single tree, and how reforestation brings hope to children in Africa and around the world. Let’s talk about meaning.

*Tony Rinaud, World Vision Australia Lead Advisor on Climate Change* In the 1980s, while engaged in tree-planting activities in Niger, Africa, he discovered a “forest that spreads underground”. Rather than planting trees, we reforested 6 million hectares of land through the initiative of residents and the regenerative power of nature, and received an award from the Niger government. Currently, he is leading World Vision’s agroforestry initiative globally and is working to spread the “resident-centered approach to nature restoration” internationally. He was awarded the Right Livelihood Award in 2018, the World Future Council Agroecology Award, and the Order of Australia in 2019.

Born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1970. He came to Japan at the age of 18 and started his entertainment career in 1989.
Appeared as a movie commentator on TBS “King’s Brunch”, J-WAVE “ALL GOOD” He has appeared on many programs such as “FRIDAY”. In the anime “South Park,” he was active as a voice actor, narrator, and actor. She is also enthusiastic about fashion, receiving the Nail Queen Association Achievement Award in 2011 and the Best Jeanist Council Selection Category in 2013, and also designs and produces clothing and jewelry. Child sponsor of WVJ since 2015. As a sponsor of three children, we also support children in developing countries in a variety of ways, including a school construction project in Nepal.

* Ryoichiro Mochizuki, World Vision Japan Support Projects Department 1 Manager* Completed the Department of Regional Cooperation Policy, Graduate School of International Cooperation Studies, Kobe University. After working for a private company, he worked at the Japanese Embassy in Zambia as a specialist investigator for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After that, he provided technical cooperation to Malawi’s Ministry of Finance as a JICA expert. Joined World Vision Japan in March 2011. Responsible for emergency support at the Great East Japan Earthquake Emergency Reconstruction Support Department. Since July 2012, he has been in charge of Vietnam, Timor-Leste, and Malawi in the Support Division. Stationed at World Vision Rwanda from October 2015 to September 2018. After returning to Japan, he engaged in support project management mainly in Africa. Current position from September 2023.

*Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR)*
. Rather than planting trees, participants utilize the regenerative power of roots and seeds remaining underground, as well as fallen stumps, and learn simple pruning knowledge and forest management rules to regenerate nature. It can be started at low cost and can be done by farmers themselves who are suffering from poverty and hunger, increasing their resilience. It has been selected by the United Nations Environment Program as one of the 10 Global Restoration Flagship initiatives recognized by the United Nations Environment Program as activities that play an important role in restoring nature.
