* Kinki’s oldest playhouse, Izushi Eirakukan*
Izushi Eirakukan, designated as a tangible cultural property of Hyogo Prefecture, is the oldest existing playhouse in the Kinki region. Despite facing the threat of demolition, the enthusiastic preservation efforts of residents served as the driving force, and in 2008 it was successfully restored and repaired.
Since then, Izushi Eirakukan has welcomed Ainosuke Kataoka every year, except for the three years during the coronavirus pandemic, and has performed performances focusing on Kamigata Kabuki programs and actors. Not only is it a source of pride for the region, but many kabuki fans come from all over the country, praising us and
encouraging us to hold the event again next year.

The charm of Eirakukan Kabuki
* ~Overwhelming sense of presence and unity~*
The unique charm of Eirakukan Kabuki, held at Izushi Eirakukan, the oldest theater in the Kinki region, is its overwhelming sense of presence and unity.
You can almost touch the actors if you extend your hand, and you can even see the actors sweat and feel their breathing directly. In addition, the audience can watch the play while feeling a sense of unity as if they are immersed in the play.
Another appeal of the Izushi Eirakukan, which opened in 1908, is that you can feel as if you have traveled back in time when you go to the theater.
* ~Kabuki performances created by residents working together~* Izushi Eirakukan was reopened due to the passionate desire of the residents to restore it and make it a base for the revitalization of the town.
When the museum reopened, local volunteers cleaned the inside of the hall and hand-sewed cushions for the box seats, making it possible to hold the opening performance (first performance) in 2008.
Since then, I have been working as an “Ochako” who picks up tickets, cleans, and guides seats at every Kabuki performance, as well as performing administrative duties such as making announcements in the venue, as well as serving as a mikoshi (mikoshi) at the “Oneri” held the day before the first performance. The festival is run with the help of many local volunteers, including the “Omukai,” who cheer out the names of the actors appearing during the performance to liven up the play.

Toyooka City, a small world city
Toyooka City was established in April 2005 through the merger of one city and five towns (Toyooka City, Kinosaki Town, Takeno Town, Hidaka Town, Izushi Town, and Tanto Town) located in the northeastern part of Hyogo Prefecture.
Although the population size is small, we aim to become a “small world city,” a city that is respected and respected by people around the world because of its locality and uniqueness. We are working on a variety of issues, including the creation of artistic culture, acceptance of diversity, revitalization of local industry, and fostering attachment to the hometown of children, who will lead the next generation.
The city has many tourist spots such as the famous Kinosaki Onsen, Takeno Kaigan, and Kannabe Plateau. Among them, Izushi Town, known as Tajima’s Little Kyoto and Izushi Castle Town, retains its old townscape and attracts many tourists as a town with a historical atmosphere.
