Shun Ikeda, a member of our company’s sumo club, will be participating in the “2024 World Sumo Championship in Poland” held in Krotoszyn, Republic of Poland from Saturday, September 7th to Sunday, September 8th, 2024. Hayato Miwa won 3rd place in the light weight class. Mr. Miwa also served as the men’s captain of the Japanese team, and in the team competition, Mr. Ikeda participated as a midfielder and Mr. Miwa as a general, contributing to the victory of the Japanese team. In addition, in participating in this World Sumo Championship, Miwa will win the senior men’s light and heavy weight class at the 3rd All Japan Sumo Individual Weight Category Championship in May 2024, and Ikeda will win the 72nd Sumo Championship in December 2023. He was selected to represent Japan after winning the All-Japan Sumo Championship (Emperor’s Cup).
■About the “World Sumo Championship”
The Sumo World Championships is a world championship of sumo, sponsored by the International Sumo Federation (headquarters: Tokyo). The men’s tournament has been held annually since 1992, and the women’s tournament has been held annually since 2001 under the name World Women’s Sumo Championship.Since 2001, both men’s and women’s tournaments have been held simultaneously at the same venue. In 2024, it will be held in Europe for the first time in 10 years, with amateur sumo wrestlers from over 30 countries and regions participating.

■About Sodick Sumo Club
The club was founded in April 2019, and its members participate in competitions while balancing their work with the goal of developing good businesspeople. In the first year of the club’s founding, they won the second division of the All Japan Business Group Sumo Championship. Since then, he has won numerous titles including individual championships at the National Sumo Tournament for Adults, the West Japan Corporate Sumo Tournament, and the All Japan Sumo Individual Weight Group Championship.
We also contribute to the community through sumo, such as by teaching at local sumo classes. We will continue to aim for high rankings in various tournaments, and will also strive to engage in a variety of activities, from the spread and development of sumo to the guidance and development of young people.

After winning the tournament in May, I am participating in the world championship as a representative of Japan for the 7th time. The result was an unsatisfactory 3rd place in the individual competition. In the final of the team competition, if I won, I would have won the championship, and I was very happy to be able to contribute to the Japanese team’s victory. I feel pressure no matter how many times I participate, but I’m glad I was able to bring back a good result to Japan.
