Background of the project
“Keep a beautiful village as beautiful as it is.” ” We sympathize with the activities of the “Japan’s Most Beautiful Villages Association” to preserve the survival of small villages with wonderful local resources and beautiful landscapes, and we hope that many people in Japan and abroad will learn about the charms of our member towns and villages and take an interest in them. That’s what I wanted people to do, and that was the impetus for the project. We agree with the proposal to create content that takes into consideration the wishes of local people to “visit” and “experience” the event, and to create content that connects with participants on an ongoing basis rather than just once. Thanks to the full support of the administrative staff of Hayakawa Town and Kawanehon Town, we were able to create a content that allows you to enjoy the charms of both towns to the fullest.
This project will continue to be held in different seasons, so we hope that you will visit both towns again and again as if it were your second hometown.

Future developments
Kamome Tourist works together with the 58 towns and villages that are members of the “Japan’s Most Beautiful Villages” association to broadly communicate the region’s important resources (nature, culture, lifestyle, and people) to everyone in Japan, and to build ties with the region. We will work to promote exchange. Additionally, in collaboration with the “World’s Most Beautiful Villages” network, we will create opportunities for people around the world to visit beautiful villages together.

The Most Beautiful Villages in Japan
The NPO Japan’s Most Beautiful Villages Alliance was started in 2005 with seven towns and villages.
At that time, the so-called Great Heisei Merger period promoted the merger of municipalities, making it difficult for small villages with wonderful local resources and beautiful landscapes to survive. Following the example of the “Most Beautiful Villages in France” movement, which carefully selects and introduces beautiful rustic villages in France, we will protect the landscape and culture of Japan’s agricultural, mountain and fishing villages, which can never be regained if lost, while promoting our efforts as the most beautiful villages. I started a movement to become independent.

Kawanehon Town
Kawanehon Town is located almost in the center of Shizuoka Prefecture, and approximately 94% of the town area is covered by forest. It is the southernmost tip of the Southern Alps.
The area around Mount Tekaridake is Honshu’s only wilderness conservation area, and the entire town area is registered as a UNESCO Eco Park. The Oi River, which originates from the Southern Alps, flows slowly through the center of the town, and the residents of this area live their daily lives as “guardians of water and forests.” In 2017, it was selected as one of the 100 best Japanese villages. There are steam locomotives and Japanese trains along the Oigawa line. The only Abt-style railway in operation, the Oi River flows leisurely, and the valley’s mountainous valley, which displays its seasonal colors, is home to a landscape of tea gardens producing Kawane tea, one of Japan’s three major tea varieties.

Hayakawa Town
Hayakawa Town is located in the southwestern part of Yamanashi Prefecture, and is a mountain town surrounded by the peaks of the Southern Alps, with an area of 369.86 square kilometers, measuring 15.5 km from east to west and 38 km from north to south.
Due to the great merger of the Heisei era, it became the town with the smallest population in Japan.
The Hayakawa River, which is the origin of the town’s name, flows through the center of the town, creating a beautiful valley with large and small mountain streams and waterfalls flowing into it. Forests occupy 96% of the town’s land, and the surrounding mountains change vividly each season, especially during the season of fresh greenery and autumn leaves. The Soba Festival is held here, and many tourists visit. The town is also rich in hot spring resources, with hot springs dotted throughout the town, including Nishiyama Onsen, which has a history of 1,300 years, Narada Onsen, Yushima no Yu, and Kusashio Onsen, which attract hot spring fans.
