PwC Consulting LLC, a JCBI member company, collaborated with JCBI’s Technology Promotion Subcommittee and Copyright Distribution Subcommittee to solicit applications for the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s “Demonstration Project for Building Digital Public Goods Utilizing Web3.0/Blockchain.” The theme was
“Establishment of guidelines for content IP protection”. &DC3, who serves as the vice chairman of the technology promotion committee, will participate in the Content NFT Study Group, which will proceed with demonstration experiments and interviews in order to formulate the guidelines, and will work in collaboration with the participating content companies. JCBI, a general incorporated association, is a corporate alliance that aims to accelerate the digital transformation of Japan’s media and content industry across industries based on cutting-edge technologies such as blockchain.
While the use of blockchain technology is currently attracting attention in the content industry, there is a need to improve the business environment due to the risk of unclear content rights and unauthorized use. In response to this, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will clarify rights related to content from the perspective of content protection in the “Demonstration Project for Building Digital Public Goods Utilizing Web3.0/Blockchain” and prevent use that violates the terms of the contract. We held a call for proposals with one of the themes being the formulation of guidelines for this purpose. Regarding this theme, PwC Consulting LLC, a JCBI member company, submitted an application in collaboration with JCBI’s Technology Promotion Committee and Copyright Distribution Committee, of which &DC3 is the vice chairperson, and the application was selected.
In this initiative, &DC3 aims to create a world where digital content is distributed more safely and securely, and together with
content-related companies, we are working with content-related companies to formulate guidelines for attributing rights to legitimate rights holders and protecting consumers. We will proceed.
