Shibuya Pixel Art has been known as “BIT” since the IT bubble era of the 1990s. The world’s largest pixel art festival is held every year in Shibuya, also known as VALLEY.
This year, the world’s largest game exhibition “Tokyo Game Show” will be held in September.
2024, a total of 10 programs will be held at 7 venues around Shibuya and Harajuku for 9 days from Saturday, September 21st to Sunday, September 29th, 2024, with a total of more than 100 people attending Pixel. Artists and live performers will participate in art
exhibitions, fairs, talk shows, and live music.

* Highlight 1. Watch as if you were playing!? “Game x Art” * “Game art” is positioned at the midpoint between contemporary art and video games. This year’s Shibuya Pixel Art introduces artists who create works using home game consoles from the 1970s and 1980s, which had functional limitations, as a medium. Through the operability, interactivity, and spatial awareness experience of video games, we will present the meaning behind them and new possibilities for game expression.
Also adopted as the main visual of this time, sequence MIYASHITA Shinji, a pixel artist living in New York, will be featured at PARK. The game work “Floralroids” by Murakami is an homage to the popular shooting game “Asteroid”, which was released in 1981 for the “ATARI 2600” home game console, and in which a fighter plane shoots down an approaching asteroid. The original fighter plane has been transformed into a watering can, and the asteroids have been transformed into flowers, and the game has been rewritten in a way that anyone can play with a smile on their faces.Through the game pieces installed in the store, the game asks, “What is peace?”

The three-person exhibition “Mischievous Bug Exhibition” by Hiroshi Mori, Eiki Okuda, and Toshiya Masuda, which will start at Stage (re-search) ahead of the exhibition period, will feature works depicting “bugs” that should normally be eliminated. This exhibition brings together works by three artists who play tricks on art history, and by extension, our common sense, by incorporating art as an essential element of art. Among them, Eiki Okuda’s work is an interactive game work that runs on the actual Famicom console, and explores new possibilities for game expression by eliminating the structure and rules that make a game work.
