*More than half of high school students plan to actively look for jobs. 41.6% said they would like to receive support from multiple companies. *
“Jinjibu” (Osaka City), which supports high school students’ employment, held a joint company information session “Job Draft Fes” for high school students at 15 venues nationwide from July 4th to 19th, 2024.
We will think about job hunting for high school students through a review of the day’s events and the results of a job hunting survey for graduating year participants.

When high school students are looking for a job, it is common for them to find a job through an introduction from their school.
You will have about two months to decide which company to apply to, from the release of job information on July 1st to the start of applications on September 5th. In many prefectures, it is decided that you can only apply to one company for a certain period of time, and job hunting is carried out in a limited environment. The job opening ratio for new high school graduates is 3.98 times, which is attracting a lot of attention from companies. (*1)
“Job Draft Fes” is a joint company information session for high school students where they can meet directly with company employees, listen to their stories, and gain work experience. To coincide with the release of job information in July, 15 venues nationwide (Kumamoto, Fukuoka, Kitakyushu, Okayama, Tachikawa, Saitama, Sendai, Chiba, Nagoya, Hiroshima, Niigata, Sakai, Osaka, Yokohama) will be held from July 4th to 19th.・Held in Tokyo).
High school students can listen to stories from working employees, gain work experience, and deepen their understanding of the companies they wish to apply to and the industries they are specifically aiming for. Additionally, companies can directly promote the appeal of their companies and industries to high school students.
In July 2024, the sixth year of the event, a total of 571 companies exhibited, and 3,229 high school students and 375 teachers
participated.
This time, we asked 791 high school students in their graduating year who are looking for a job to fill out a “questionnaire regarding employment.” Based on the results, we will think about current job hunting for high school students.

Regarding the method of job hunting, most respondents (54.7%) answered, “Search by yourself from the job postings received at school.” 54.9% of high school students answered either “Search by myself” or “I plan to look beyond the job postings I receive at school” and did not select “Introduction from a teacher,” more than half of the respondents. It can be said that the majority of high school students are motivated to “take the initiative in job hunting.” On the other hand, 30.9% of students plan to be introduced by their teachers, suggesting that high school students need both sources of information that they can use on their own and support from their schools.

Half of high school students (53.5%) would like to see between 2 and 9 job postings. Additionally, many high school students seem to want to visit two or three companies for workplace tours (63.0%). 84.5% of respondents said they would go to two or more companies, an increase of 29.4% compared to the same period last year.

The most important points when choosing a company were “salary” in first place, “number of holidays” in second place, “job content” in third place, and “good interpersonal relationships” in fourth place. It can be seen that more than half of high school students place importance on the top four items.
Other responses include “an environment where you can do what you want to do” (20.5%), “an environment where you can grow” (14%), “personality of managers and human resources personnel” (13.9%), and “voices from senior employees” (11.9%). , “Company’s future potential” (9.2%), “Company’s business/philosophy” (7.6%), and “Capital/company size” (4.6%).

It can be seen that the overwhelming source of information that many high school students use for job hunting is “job postings” (74.3%). In addition to “job-hunting events” introduced by teachers or attended in class, voluntary information gathering methods such as “employment navigation sites,” “job-hunting events that you can participate in,” “recruitment websites,” and “SNS” are also expanding. In recent years, there has been a change in prefectures to allow applicants to apply to multiple companies when applications begin in September.
When we asked high school students about applying to multiple companies, 45.5% said they wanted to apply to multiple companies, which was higher than the response that said they wanted to apply to one company at a time (40.2%). However, the most common response (41.6%) was “I would like to apply to multiple companies if I had support.” Although they are motivated, they feel that it is difficult to apply to multiple companies on their own. I can infer that you need support.

In a survey, we asked high school students about their job hunting methods, and instead of choosing “I plan to be introduced by a teacher,” they said “Search by yourself among the job postings that arrive at school,” “Search by yourself,” and “Search for job openings that arrive at school.” More than half (54.9%) of high school students answered that they would look into other areas. In addition, 84.5% of high school students answered “two or more companies” (an increase of 29.4% compared to last year’s survey) regarding the number of companies they would like to visit. For high school students who want to compare as much information as possible while proceeding with job hunting, participating in joint company information sessions such as Job Draft Fes, where they can independently collect information, can be a positive boost. In addition, regarding sources of information collection, “job postings” were the most frequently cited response, and there were also responses from the Internet and SNS, so we proactively worked on sites that posted job information that was easy to find on our own. It is considered to be effective for high school students who want to do so.
Based on the above, it can be said that for high school students who are looking for a job for the first time, it is important to both respect their will and sense of independence, and to have support from those around them.
