[About 2 out of 3 seniors are interested in brain training] Is one-on-one English conversation actually effective for brain training?QQEnglish Respect for the Aged Day survey
*We have received comments from seniors who have tried online English conversation, saying, “I felt more positive” and “I wish I had tried it sooner.” *
*
QQEnglish Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director: Yorimitsu Fujioka) conducted an “awareness survey regarding brain training” targeting 300 people aged 50 to 70 across Japan. *

* ■Investigation background*
According to the Cabinet Office, Japan’s population has continued to decline since 2010, and by 2025 there will be 21.8 million elderly people aged 75 and over, and 14.97 million people aged 65 to 74. It is predicted that Japan will reach 100%*, and we will enter a super-aging society in which one in five people will be in the latter stages of their lives.
A “super-aging society” will have various problems, including a shortage of medical and welfare personnel, a slowdown in economic activity, and isolation of the elderly. In order to improve these problems, it is important for seniors to stay young and healthy forever. As one solution, “brain training” is said to have a great effect on preventing blurriness and controlling emotions. This time, in honor of Respect for the Aged Day, we conducted a survey to find out how aware seniors are about “brain training.”

* -Interest in “brain training” among seniors: 2 out of 3 people answered “interested”-*
* Q: Are you interested in brain training (e.g. Sudoku, crossword puzzles, etc.)? *
Approximately 62% (187 people) of the 300 people answered that they were interested in brain training. It can be said that brain training is a topic that attracts a lot of attention among seniors.
Next, when we asked the 187 people who answered that they were interested in brain training whether they were already doing brain training, more than half of them said they had not done so yet. Ta. There is a trend that many people find it difficult to start new things as they get older.

In addition to Sudoku and crossword puzzles, “one-on-one English conversation” is also effective for brain training, says Masanori Niimi, a medical doctor at Oxford University.
We also had evidence* from the teachers, so we asked them about their interest in learning English and their impressions of online English conversation.

I replied that I would like to try it. The number of people who answered, “I want to start English conversation” in anticipation of the brain training effect increased by 15%.
