Breeding activities of red pandas
At our company, we perceive four items as the significance of the facility’s existence: 1. Recreational space, 2. Conservation of species, 3. Education through living creatures, and 4. Surveys and research on the natural environment and marine life.
It is also important to promote activities that contribute to the local community, as well as surveys and research on nature
conservation and marine life that should be promoted by the facility, while conveying the “various attractions of living things” to visitors to the island. thinking about.
In April 2019, this facility started exhibiting red pandas for the first time in an aquarium, and has been working to breed red pandas while delivering a lovely appearance.
In February 2020, the male “Nei” came to our hotel as the son-in-law of the female “Kokin”. Coquin and Nei started living together in February, and Coquin and Nei got along well, and in 2020 and 2021, Coquin’s pregnancy was confirmed and she gave birth, but unfortunately neither of them was able to breastfeed well, and their growth was slowing down. I didn’t get it.
We proceeded with breeding activities with the cooperation of other zoos, and in March of this year, mating of the two was confirmed. The red panda’s gestation period is said to be 3 to 5 months.
And on Saturday, July 9th, Kokin gave birth to two babies. After giving birth, Kokin came out of the hive and could not be seen taking care of the baby.
It was the first artificial nursing for our museum, and we have been nurturing it with great care while being encouraged by the strong figure that grows day by day.
At 60 days old, artificial nursing is stable, the amount of exercise gradually increases, and it is the time to train legs and loins. During the period from September 7 (Wednesday) to October 16 (Sunday), artificial nursing was open to the public for a limited time. After the baby has been artificially nurtured and grown steadily, the exhibition will finally start on Saturday, November 5th.
“Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise” prioritizes the life and health of living things, including red pandas, and will continue to actively engage in breeding activities of various living things to create new lives.
