The “Curry and Rice Price Index” in July 2024 increased by 14.7% compared to the same month last year, reaching 124.8. This marks the 14th consecutive month that the index has been positive, and the prices of ingredients (meat and vegetables) are rising in particular. The main factors are increased prices of imported beef and vegetables such as potatoes.
(2) Rice price exceeds 100 yen for the first time
The price of rice was 101 yen per serving, an increase of 14 yen from the same month last year, the highest price in the past 10 years. This further pushes up the overall cost of curry and rice. Although changes in curry roux and utility costs were relatively small, the overall cost increase was significant.
