This is an extremely satisfying Chinese rice bowl made with chicken-based bean paste flavored with scallops and oysters, colorful vegetables, and 6 quail eggs.

Since February of this year, there has been a growing movement to suspend the use of quail eggs in school lunches. The drastic drop in demand for school lunches has caused many quail farmers and manufacturers to feel nervous, with some farmers even having to cull as many as 10,000 quail.

Q． How did you come to sell “Quail Egg Chinese Bowl” and what were the difficult points?

A. When I searched SNS after hearing the news, I saw a post requesting a lunch box made with quail eggs, so I immediately procured some quail eggs. We had quail egg vendors understand our purpose, and we developed the product at an unprecedented speed of about two months, whereas normally it would take more than three months from product development to sales.

In fact, we planned and developed it using the bento format, so it's a shame that we rushed it so much that the rice is covered in sesame seeds even though it's a bowl of rice. Therefore, this is not included in the “Only Bento'' series, which only has one type of side dish, but rather is a spin-off product.

Quail eggs are a popular ingredient that is said to play a supporting role in cooking, but they rarely appear on the dining table of ordinary households, especially in the Kanto region. It's the type of ingredient that would make you happy if you had it, so I thought it would make people happy if it had a lot of it, so I made a luxurious Chinese bowl with 6 pieces.

Q. Are there any recommended ways to eat or arrange it?

A. Chew quail eggs thoroughly before eating. Also, if you overheat quail eggs in the microwave, they may burst, so if you want to enjoy the texture of boiled eggs, warm them up just enough.

Although quail eggs are rich in nutrients, each package in this bento has 321 calories, so it is recommended for those on a diet. It goes perfectly with Chinese menu items such as gyoza, shumai, spring rolls, fried chicken, and Chinese soup.
