A person on the road who lives freely without being bound by the social order. Tadateru Matsudaira was born as a descendant of Tokugawa Ieyasu, but even though he was the sixth child of Ieyasu Tokugawa, he was feared by Ieyasu for his tremendous energy and strange appearance, and was abandoned. With no place to return to, Tadateru chooses to confront the second Shogun Hidetada, who is planning a plot, and Yagyu, who is relentlessly aiming for his life. How did Tadateru decide to live even though his life was threatened, he was subjected to unreasonable treatment, and he was inherently lonely? A body trained like a martial artist, a fighting sense that can block Yagyu’s deadly sword, and a heart that hates unnecessary slaughter. It wasn’t just his strength that supported him in the fierce battle. An innate cheerfulness, a kindness that senses people’s sadness, and a determination to protect the weak and those they love. And because he is strong, he is so big that even his enemies fall in love with him. Tadateru hid the loneliness of his origins in his heart, did not mourn, wished to live freely, and valued faith above all else. However, the era was a turbulent time of betrayal and falsehood. After losing the one he loves, he is transformed. He has an intellectual and cool demeanor, understands Latin and Christianity with ease, is knowledgeable about Western medicine, and becomes a forgiving friend of even his enemy Hideyori. He will become such a spacious person. However, the fall of Osaka Castle is just around the corner. There was no way Tadateru, who had Tokugawa blood, could save Hideyori from Osaka Castle. However, Tadateru ran with all his might toward Osaka Castle. Amidst the roar of gunfire, he returns to his friend Hideyori with the memories of his childhood in mind. Ieyasu tries to destroy Hideyori, Yodo-kun tries to protect himself, and Hidetada is timid. There are countless things that stand in the way of these two. But when souls that go beyond friend and foe meet, a drama is born in Osaka Castle that you can’t read without crying. This is a masterpiece that passionately and intensely depicts Tadateru, who was never tainted even in a world of war. ■Book introduction [Volume 1] “The color is just black, the eyes are slit in reverse, and there are fish scales on the arms…” Matsudaira Tadateru was born as the sixth child of Tokugawa Ieyasu to a mother who was a descendant of a wealthy family.
